After I started to register for Nationwide's Simply Rewards I was sent an email from noreply@nationwide.visaoffers.eu, as they had told me to expect.
This contained a link to nationwide.visaoffers.eu.
At least, that's what it said. But the link was actually to
56q1.mjt.lu. (MSE doesn't let me give more details of the links.)
Have Nationwide opened an office in .LUxembourg?
I suppose it's possible that this is a link to a Visa website; but, if so, why do Nationwide need to disguise the real link with a fictitious one?
Incidentally, thanks to SnowTiger for pointing out that Nationwide normally give the last 3 characters of my postcode in their emails; this did not happen in the one about Simply Rewards.

I did go through the procedure. I don't think it is a scam, however the process goes against all the warnings we're given about keeping ourselves safe online.

This is a screen grab of the email confirmation email I received:

    Nationwide_scam.png

It looks very amateurish and even Thunderbird, the email package I use, thought it was a scam.

As you say, the nationwide.visaoffers.eu text actually points to http://56q1.mjt.lu/link/... This is probably what triggered Thunderbird's scam alert.

0/10 for Nationwide's efforts to keep us safe online. As I said, this goes against all the warnings we're given.

If anyone wants a link from the genuine Nationwide web site, try here: http://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/support-articles/services/simply-rewards/features-benefits and click on the Go to Simply Rewards link.

But, quite frankly, the selection of retailers is pretty poor. I'm not convinced that it's customised for me in any way. I see several offers of discounts on airline tickets, even though I have never booked any airline tickets on my Nationwide card.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I have a new debit card. Is there a way to update my card number on Simply Rewards or do I have to register again with the new card?

Sorry - but I fail to understand why it has to be stored outside UK ?

An example might be if they use a data processing warehouse, such as those offered by Amazon, IBM and Google.

And, presumably, the information has be shared with Visa who operate the payment network and offer scheme. Visa is an international organisation. I doubt they process everything with the UK.

Yes Kim, just done it myself, though hardly worth it given the limited number of retailers. Argos might be useful.

Just tried to register and Malwarebytes blocked the return address as a potentially malicious website. Can't be bothered to fiddle with it to allow access so won't register. Nationwide needs to sort this out.

10% off at Argos is, perhaps, the only offer that will be useful to me. The rest are mainly airlines, hotels and restaurants. No discounts on day-to-day spending unless you eat out a lot! :)

Wine seller Perfect Cellar is listed under Groceries. I'm sure that will please a few people. :)

Many of the offers end on 25th or 26th November, so I guess they're updated regularly.

The sign up process is riddled with security issues.

But the problems don't end there.

I registered using my Nationwide debit card.

If I want to take advantage of one of the offerings using my Nationwide credit card I have to register a new account.

It appears to be impossible to add a second card to an account that already exists.
