I will, with regret, be leaving So Energy after three years on principle. At the end of my last contract, I was some £150 in credit - this was in mid September 2020. I asked for this sum to be returned to me and was told it was against their policy, but I had already signed up to this year at that time. My very, very, strong objection is that in that case the sum in credit should have been deducted from the expected annual usage sum before my monthly payments were calculated as I'm likely now to be £300ish in credit at the end of this contract, particularly as I am fervent in posting my usage on the same date each month, so So Energy knows my likely usage. So, it will be "goodbye So and thanks for all the fish".

There will be two, or perhaps three, verbal "complaints" by telephone on my account already!  Your customer service is excellent, always quick to answer the phone and easy to talk with and they have confirmed making notes and I have asked them to bring this up in meetings, which they have said they will do, but I've received no response or call back. For simplicity, the point I'm making is that if I am notionally assessed at using, say £900 worth of gas/electricity in the following contract and am £150 in credit, the £150 should be deducted from the £900 (if not directly refunding the £150) and the remaining £750 should be apportioned into 12 payments, but this it seems is not happening. I am retired now, and not keen on email and besides, what's the point since I've brought it up more than once?

  • I was on Direct Debit with So Energy, with different winter and summer debits, up until March when I decided to switch because they were no longer competitive.

The switch was activated on 18/03/21, and effective on 04/04/21 – my last day with So Energy on 03/04/21.

They had let my account build up credit – no surprise there. They took the last winter DD on 15/03/21.

At the time of closing, the credit equated to 95 days. That’s pretty fortunate for them, maybe even greedy?

But just to take maximum advantage of the situation, and my bank account, on 14/04/21, 11 days after they are no longer my supplier, they take another payment!!!

Now, remember they advise you to leave the DD open so that they can easily make any refund directly into your account, so you do.

This now equates to 125 days.

When the final refund arrives, on 24/05/21, it equates to 130 days, and it took 51 days to arrive.

Now that is stretching it to the ridiculous. Actually, it is stretching everything to their statutory limits before they have to pay automatic compensation.

I am coming to the end of my So Energy contract and have a direct offer from So Energy to renew but no sign of them on Cheap Energy Club site

Because  you are no longer a new customer. They seem to not quote on comparison sites as i found, if you put them on as your supplier.  I stayed again this year as prices are going up everywhere and their's was not much difference for me. And i did not want to be hassled for .a smart meter.

If you want to see them just change your supplier on the cec website.
  • I've just bitten the bullet, took the £20 exit fee and switched away from So Energy to a more established supplier.
So Energy customer service hovers between deplorable and non-existent. They continually ignore meter readings they've asked for and over-estimate usage, resulting in ludicrous projections and unjustified monthly payment rises. I've waited two weeks for a response to a query about why they've gone back on previous agreements but think I'm waiting in vain. Hopefully, I'll be well rid by this time next month - they have been an administrative nightmare!!
  • OVER THE MOON i am finally left Boost energy they are the worse suppliers ever they constantly change peoples account numbers without notice so your top up money goes into there account you get no power
  • I guess this is an alternative to not offering quotes to new customers :o
