55% off = the normal selling price. I wonder if you could collate enough quotes to see that the discount always applies except the odd sale where they thought the people were well off and would not haggle?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I have to say in safestyles defence, that I purchased windows from them years ago and was very pleased with the price, the fitting and the after sales service.
I would only agree to a fitting on a saturday morning as I didn't get paid if I didn't work and wasn't going to lose a days holiday.
I had 2 crews come, 1 took the windows out and 1 went around fitting the new ones. The lads were polite, friendly and worked quickly.Treat other's how you like to be treated.

We do still need new windows which is why I initially gave them the chance to at least quote. I didn't realise they would try and get a signature (since reading here) so I would rather source my own company.
They just phoned to confirm the appointment tonight and I have unconfirmed it. Hopefuly that will be the last I will hear from them.0 -

I had a similar experience and agreed to a quote,as I needed some, but cancelled when they rang to confirm.
Last time we used a large firm, but this time I'm going to have quotes from small locals, who do the work themselves and don't charge to cover the salaries of a team of salesmen.0 -

Glad to hear you've cancelled the appointment instead of just 'being out'.
Regardless of what you think of door-knockers, I don't think it's very polite to have someone come out to an arranged appointment if you have no intention of being in or buying.0 -

It is quite obvious that if OP had been out when the telephone call to confirm the appointment was made by the salesman, the salesman would have turned up. The instructions by the OP to the company to cancel the appointment were ignored/not passed to the salesman.
Normally, I agree that good manners cost nothing but not in this case.0 -
Well done for cancelling; I would still be wary though that they might come round, so have someone else there or don't answer the door. Ask friends and colleagues for recommendations and get in touch with them. Never respond to cold callers.
Sorry I can't be doing with "have some sympathy for the salesman"; this type of pushy selling is a form of bullying and extortion.0
