Yes. But when I called any company or bank, the first security question will be my date of birth, which is not a secret at all.
Using Globally Unique IDentification strings would solve the problem, but humans generally can't remember such strings.Eco Miser

Dear all, I must thank everyone here to give me valuable suggestions. You are so great and helpful. I do do appreciate it. Santander gave me a confirmation today that my money has been fully refund. I was called yesterday by a staff from Fraud department of Santander. She told me that this fraud was due to my external mailbox. Also she mentioned there was a lady with my country's accent who called Santander to change my contact number. This lady can answer the security questions. But after the investigation, Santander was sure it's not me. In this case, they will refund my money within 1 day.
I am pleased they solve the issue promptly but I still think their security questions are stupid. Even the lady from the fraud team just ask me 2 questions for passing the security. The first one is date of birth and the second one is how old are you this year? I was little shocked with the second one and answered slowly but still passed the security.
I think I will stick to Stander 1, 2, 3 account. But I will not put a lot of money inside.
Thanks again for everyone's help and good luck, guys!0 -

I'd agree with that - even though, according to the media, maths is getting worse in this country, I'd have thought almost anyone knowing a date of birth would be able to come up with the correct age.0 -
Have you arranged with the Post Office to collect your mail rather than them delivering it to your external mailbox?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Good news pleased to hear this. As for security questions I had to laugh at the above! Isn't that what doormen used to ask when you tried to get into a nightclub under age?0 -

You'd be really surprised! I once sat near our plastic fraud operations team for a few weeks and they'd often get people totally baffled by this question, it was quite worrying :rotfl:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Instead of blaming people for being poor at maths blame the security idiots that invented these nonsensical questions.
I am good at maths, but every time I am asked this (stupid!) question it takes me a few seconds to concentrate and calculate my age as this involves months as well, not just two years to subtract. I can't afford making an error as I can be punished by a visit to a branch.
Another, even more stupid, question is how old I will be on my next birthday.
What's wrong with just asking the DOB instead?!0 -

Glad this is sorted for you.0 -
It is surprisingly hard to answer the question asked fluently if you are not genuine - and some banks now use voice recognition systems which would pick up something like this.0

I think that's where people underestimate the capability of banks to identify people. With the most modern voice recognition technology, all they need to do is engage you in a conversation about the weather or last night's Strictly Come Dancing to determine whether your voice matches the one you enrolled with when setting up your spoken security details.
I have been asked a few times what my age will be next birthday - - and strangely enough, my initial reaction was mostly umm, err, shouldn't ask a lady for her age, I can't ever remember how old I am these days...sixtyone, sixtytwo? I always passed. They just wanted to get me talking.0
