It would show up as unusual activity and I have had my account frozen a few times when making payments to new payees that were picked up as out of my usual spending pattern, which I then had to sort out and pass security checks before Santander allowed the payments.
Hopefully there is CCTV of the person making the transactions at the tills/counter? Time, date, place etc.
Yes I had my card frozen when I spent £400 and they could not contact me to confirm it as a genuine transaction.0 -
Is it a top secret? It's in the electoral roll and credit files that soooo many people have access to. AFAIK the open electoral register can be bought by any person.
Not to mention my passport and DL that pass so many hands and leave so many copies behind.
It's a really poor security if it relies on a DOB as a secure information.
Well I don't know about you, but my DOB cannot be found by googling. Or by buying the Electoral Roll as I have opted out years ago (and think the default should be that people are opted out). Nor are my CRA files accessible via Google. I have provided my passport to many organisations as proof of ID but that hasn't led to my DOB, or my name, or any other personal data, being available via Google.0 -
Yes, I guess they made an automated call to the changed telephone number asking to confirm that the transactions were genuine.
Absolutely, that will be the reason they changed the number. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

I have a company and I am the director. I think director's information can be known if you check online. I have facebook but I didn't use it for a long time.
It's a menace that one.
Put in my full name into Google and you get my address (with the false post code) and my date of birth (also false)
I'm not stupid!
All freely available to the world thanks to companycheck.co.uk0 -

The computer just asks you to confirm that it is you, then says the transactions and asks for a confirmation.0 -

Or if you're really unlucky there could be a dodgy postie or worker in the sorting office.
Hi, gunsandbanjos. Yes. That's absolutely true. Thanks a lot for your remind. Maybe it is better to do every financial statement online.0 -

Yes, I am surprised as well. Especially a new card. the transaction can go through. But the truth is that the money has gone! Santander told me they tried to call me but I didn't answer it. Then we checked the phone number and realised thieves had changed it to another one.0 -

But this is the main way they deal with the security now. Do u have any better suggestion?0 -

Hi, Grumbler. Is it better to choose on the electoral roll but not on the open record?0
