if you want a commercialised present, you could look a nice grown up hiking backpack.. and then do a DIY treasure hunt!

I bet there are some treasure hunts (or trails) in your local area... what about asking the Tourist Information. You probably cannot give this as a present, but it would be a lovely add on and you would have a great day.

For the girl - What about a small piece of jewellery, or a jewellery box?
