Did you use to flip through the Argos catalogue for hours?

This reminded me of the Mothercare catalogue in the early 70's. My toddler daughter used to spend ages 'reading' it. It was much smaller and lighter than the Argos catalogue and she liked pointing to the things we already had - before graduating to the Argos catalogue and the things she would like!0

Is Argos still going or does everyone buy from Amazon now?Britain is great but Manchester is greater0 -
I looked at the 1974 one. The jewellery is fabulous! A ring with a 1 carat diamond in white gold for £1025. The quality of their jewellery has certainly fallen. A ring of this quality wouldn't even feature in their current catalogue!0

I also remember INDEX. They also had a catalogue, and a shop. They closed down in 2005. It was very similar to Argos, so one or the other had to go I think. And it was Index. It was owned by Littlewoods. Remember them?
I vaguely remember that
I remember going through the Argos catalogue as a kid in the 90s and making a list of the item names, codes and prices of things I'd like for ChristmasI spent hours making those lists and found it great fun
I'd look in the kids jewellery bit first, then move onto technology, then move onto toys
