We used to shuffle through the Kays catalogue back in the early 80's.
However whenever it went missing we would always find it in our younger Brothers bedroom with kiss marks all over the female model pics.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I might buy one now!
Now this was a rare example of my brother and I actually receiving the big ticket item we'd asked for. Sadly, it turned out to be rubbish and gave our parents ammunition for refusing every other expensive toy that looked cool in the advert. It was really badly designed and extremely hard to turn the handle to crush the ice (too hard for a child, Dad had to do it). The flavours you poured over the ice ran out very quickly, and it never tasted that great with cheapo orange squash. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

Yeah we had this too, and it was a bit carp wasn't it?! :rotfl:
Another thing I can think of was BUCKAROO! Looked like great fun, but broke after 4 -5 days. Our kids had one about 10 years ago too:- that broke after 4-5 days too.0 -
When I was in primary school, we had a P7 teacher who was fanatical about making lists of things and teaching us to think logically. One of the homeworks/projects we had was that we were given a budget of X pounds (cant remember now, it may have been £2000) and an argos catalogue and told we had rented a one bedroom flat with major appliances included, but we had to kit out the rest of the flat with furniture and essentials within budget and using only the catalogue.
I suppose it was good to help us with budgeting, prioritising the essentials over having a top of the range Hi-Fi system etc but we were aged 10-11!!
The feedback that most of us got was "how do you expect to live without knives and forks, or pots and pans?" as inevitably most of us ended up forgetting about some pretty essential things.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -
Wow!
When I was a child I would look through the catalogue and choose which item from each category was my fave and in my head would kit out an imaginary house with it all my choices haha! It was always an exciting day when we picked up the new book, and would always pick up a spare copy to take to my Granny (and I would worry we would be in trouble for taking two!!), it became a tradition!
My daughter, when she went on holidays with my parents, used to take the Argos catalogue with her and go through it picking out what she would have in her house when she was grown up. She started doing it when she was 4!!0 -
My Dgd 6 , has always loved looking through the toy section of the Argos catalogue! Her and her little Bro cut pics out of what they want, and stick them on cards for me, so I know what to buy them! This activity isn't just for Xmas either!:rotfl:
When I was younger I had Saturday jobs at both Argos and Index, at different times of course! Argos was a much better company to work for;)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

My youngest (now 18) loved the Argos catalogue so much he used to sleep with it.
I loved my mum's old Kay's catalogue. I used to cut out a family and all the things they would have in their house.0 -
I remember when I was about 10, there was a craze for roller skates, the type you strapped on over your shoes. As it wasn't christmas or birthdays, my dad counted up the books of Green Shield stamps and my brother and I went with Dad to Argos in Streatham to buy them using the stamps.0
