Computer upgrade help

what was the thought process behind that purchase, when you already have a similar capacity available. £130 or thereabouts is a lot to pay for an extra 670GB
80GB ssd should be capacious enough for windows and a large variety of programs.
As mentioned already, your problem is likely to be software or configuration or process, not hardware.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
Just want to simplify things, was mentioned i had to many hard drives connected anyway. i will put the old 1 tb drive in external case and use it for backup storage. when the stuff arrives i aim to start from scratch and reinstall everything again, have checked bios version and its the latest available, same for chipset drivers. will look at sata connections. Hoping this will make it run better.0

the simplify things idea was to help find the cause of the problem, which is still lacking detail.
ie reinstall on one drive, be it ssd or hard disk, get it working to your satisfaction, then add the other drives, internally or externally. Otherwise you'll end up with a large pile of working equipment that isn't being used. Replacing the motherboard and processor, or buying another barebones machine, make little sense from a financial perspective, you already have a modern machine, with a minor problemDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -
I can see that, not a lot going to waste, reusing 1tb drive, have someone interested in 500 GB hard drive and ssd. Not sure I would class this computer as modern, its almost 6 years old now, even more basic new computers seem streets ahead. I'm giving it a go, its cheaper than buying new as hopefully will see me OK for a couple more years. Thanks for help.0

Just ordered 250 gb Samsung SSD, and 2 Tb WD sata hard drive from Amazon. Think i will stick with Win 7 for now... Will remove the old 1 tb and 500gb gb sata drive and just leave the new SSD, and new 2tb HD. Will also look into the Sata connections, may have a look at the bios, but very unsure on messing with that...... If it doesnt work then i will look at barebone desktop or m- board bundle, sticking with intel cpu, prob a i5. Thanks guys for the help and advice
Forgot to say you might need to buy a tray for the SSD if you havent got one as they are smaller than the HDD. Just put in the SSD 1st and install windows .. add the 2TB after you all done0 -
Have a tray with the old SSD, package out for delivery today, busy backing music, films etc on to external drives, going to take mt time with this, have dug out book that came with Mboard, and yes i will just do SSD first, then the rest of software before adding hard drives. Also thinking of maybe buying a NAS later on, have looked at these before but been put off by price and they looked complex to set up, so no doubt i may need some advice on what to buy. I am really hoping this new stuff and fresh set up will improve things.
Thanks for help.:T0 -
New hardware and fresh installation oh Win 7 done. It boots up quicker, and seems to run a bit smoother, although it still lags a bit at times. I purposely haven't connected put the hard drive, and just put all my software on the SSD , converting and burning DVd's is about the same, doing anything else at the same time is slow, although maybe not quite as slow. I think will probably put the new bits to one side for now and use in new barebone desktop from Novatech , and let my daughter have this pc, Appreciate all the help and advice..Big Thanks to all0

Freemake. . Used this for years, Did buy Nero 11 but its not as easy to use, I haven't installed it on new SSD as it takes ages to install, and has lots of bloatware on it taking up lots of drive space.0

Computer tech friend of daughter, took my PC away last night, he's checked it all out, he says was set up OK, not to spend any more on it. Asked him his view on upgrading it, Yes but better of buying ready built, as not saving much building from scratch. Novatech Barebone PC a good buy. I'm going to see if there are any deals on BF, before I decide what to buy, daughter having computer, but not with new SSD or hard drive.. She's OK with it, mainly use for surfing and Office.0
