In this case you are correct.
But if the machine comes with an OEM version, then it is tied to that motherboard, And if the motherboard were replaced, then the user would need a new OS ..

(providing everything is to be done legally of course ;))
Nope.. ring up microsoft everytime you reinstall and you get a code.. doe this plenty of time... install oem.. change mobo wouldnt activate.. ring Microsoft inpot new code done..

You paid for the OS with the machine why should you be force to pay again

Just because it works, it doesn't mean its allowed.

Technically (by M$ definitions anyway), the computer is defined by the motherboard.
New motherboard = different computer = OEM licence for original computer is not valid.

Yes, you can call the automated hotline, tell it hat you only have it installed on one machine, and it will give you the activation code ..
But as I said, just because it works, it doesn't mean its legit ;)

Here is the official Microsoft spiel :-

Can You Move Windows 7 To A New Computer

If it's a retail Full or Upgrade license - yes. You can move it to a different computer as long as it's only installed on one computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have it's own qualifying XP/Vista license). The previous Windows 7 installation on the old computer must be formatted/deleted. You might have to call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete the activation. Activating it on the second computer will automatically in effect "deactivate" the license for the first computer. The key will work with both 32 and 64 bit, but only one can be installed at a time.

If it's an OEM license - no. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows bought separately, are tied to the first computer they are installed on and can not be transferred to a different computer. To install Windows on a different computer you will need to buy another copy.

If I was the OP, I would start by doing a fresh install of W7.

Im 90% sure this will fix his issues.
Make sure all your drivers are up to date (chipset etc) and download latest bios firmware.

If you still have the problem then I would swap out the physical disk burner, they are only around a tenner these days aren't they.

There is completely no need at all in buying a new system in the circumstances you have laid out.

Im with BSOD on this one - no need for all the spec waffle

Now this is a positive comment, a proposed solution with reasons why.

However before doing a w7 reinstall I'd try a BIOS and chipset update first and also make sure the DVD is the last in order SATA and the SSD first. You may fix your issue without going through the rigmarole of a re-install.

Have no idea which is first or last in sata , will check it out, never done a bios update on it since i have had it, its something i steer clear from after destroying a old Mesh pc many years back updating the bios, cost me a lot to get it fixed. I did a windows fresh install about two months back to see if it would help, was slightly quicker at first, but didn't make much real difference. I am going to buy a Samsung 250 gb SSD, and 2tb Hard drive and start with them, should it be no better then i can re use them in a new set up, should i deceide to buy a new Mb i will probably stick with Intel, more than likely i5. Help on here has been very good, far better than computer forums elsewhere.

Yet I see no "thanks" on any posts ;)

Yeah, get your new SSD, stick windows 10 on it, and for the price of a new DVD burner you may as well plump for a new one of those.

I bet your problem wont follow you

No but a few more might appear with w10 though ;) :

Note it's a VIA VT1708S Audio chipset on that Mobo, ask Gun Jack about W10 audio issues.

Looks like the most problematic audio is old Sound Max and VIA, watch out for no Laptop HDMI output support when using the MS WDDM driver for AMD < HD5000, only solution there is to brute force the 8.1 driver.

Just ordered 250 gb Samsung SSD, and 2 Tb WD sata hard drive from Amazon. Think i will stick with Win 7 for now... Will remove the old 1 tb and 500gb gb sata drive and just leave the new SSD, and new 2tb HD. Will also look into the Sata connections, may have a look at the bios, but very unsure on messing with that...... If it doesnt work then i will look at barebone desktop or m- board bundle, sticking with intel cpu, prob a i5. Thanks guys for the help and advice
