really?
Trying to save someone blowing £500 on something they don't need is quite positive (and helpful) I think.
how many MIPS does dvd burning take nowadays?Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

still not answering the pertinent question.
you are recommending (on a site called moneysavingexpert) the op spends money to replace a modern system with a slightly more modern system, when their only requirement is to burn dvds without a slowdown. why?Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

If I was the OP, I would start by doing a fresh install of W7.
Im 90% sure this will fix his issues.
Make sure all your drivers are up to date (chipset etc) and download latest bios firmware.
If you still have the problem then I would swap out the physical disk burner, they are only around a tenner these days aren't they.
There is completely no need at all in buying a new system in the circumstances you have laid out.
Im with BSOD on this one - no need for all the spec waffle0 -
DONT LISTEN TO WHOPEVER SAID YOU NEED TO BUY OS IF NEW MOTHERBORED IS INSTALLED THAT RUBBISH....
A lot of info in here where you can help yourself.. Clean install windows 7.. that will help with out a doubt.. Also why not upgrade to windows 10.. (Thou it free now it might not be after 12 months. No one knows if it will be free for good yet as could end up paying subsricptions or a one of payment)
You could do with a bigger SSD so i would buy meself a 250 - 500GB Samsung PRO... 250 70 quid
Make sure you set these up right etc (right settings in BIOS & correct sata slot on motherbored as should be in slot 0)
Buy a new DVD drive or blueray drive... 50 quid so in total 110 quid...0 -

...
In this case you are correct.
But if the machine comes with an OEM version, then it is tied to that motherboard, And if the motherboard were replaced, then the user would need a new OS ..
(providing everything is to be done legally of course)
Also why not upgrade to windows 10..
+1 for that , definitely ..
I have W10 on my main machine with a meagre 128SSD and it is like greased lightening.
It boots to my desktop before the telly has warmed up and started displaying a picture its that fast !!
