getting a bit of buffering on the fire stick, I have been told that I need to disable the shield on the suppliers router
Can someone tell me if this is correct?
if I do disable it what are the possible consequences?
I have AVG on my computer is this enough to protect me?

shield on the suppliers router?
what has AVG on your computer to do with amazon streaming to a firestick ?
the buffering will be down to a bad internet signal or a bad wi fi connection from your router to your firestick
as a start , try a simple speedtest on your computer on this site , and reply back with your download speed , try it by cable and wi fi if possible0 -
I have Sky broadband
not sure if I disabled the shield if it would affect my computer security, im not totally techie unfortunately
my computer is custom built and I don't have wifi within it but by cable the readings are
14.5mbps download and 1.2mbps upload.0 -
please explain what you mean by "shield" and who has given you this idea of turning it off ?0

I was told by a friend that Sky have a "shield" within the router, don't know what or why for and this will interrupt possible connection to the firestick, I don't know if this is right or not, I am getting buffering and the stick is freezing as well so trying options to try and improve things
I hope this makes a bit of sense0 -

I imagine they mean this:
http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/broadband-shield/
I can't say I've ever bothered switching it on!Stompa0 -
"It automatically helps protect devices connected to your Sky Broadband network from any websites containing viruses, from hacking or phishing sites and it also filters out web content flagged as unsuitable by the settings you've selected.
Simply choose an age rating suited to the people in your home to create the appropriate internet security settings. The table below lists the categories of sites that are blocked under each age rating."
not applicable to a amazon firestick , as it does not go on the "web"0 -
ok so any suggestions on how to improve my connection0

yes but it requires "some" knowledge , do you know how to change wi fi channels on your router and do you have access to a tablet /phone that can log onto your wifi?0
-
if I cant get it I can get a friend to give me a hand, I have a mobile that is logged onto my wifi0
-
you need to install a program from google playstore , https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nutsaboutnets.wifiexplorer
a wifi explorer , you can then see which channel your wi fi is on , and more importantly any of your neighbours are using. you can then go into your router and change/move the channel you are on to a less crowded one0
