Afternoon all
Thanks for starting Clootiesmum
It hasn't been a NSD today as I've booked train tickets to go and see my family up north before Christmas (£68 all in all and I've split the tickets). I was going to drive up with OH but he's having the implant put in the week before and I don't want to cart him 250 miles up the country! Plus we'd have had to stay in a hotel but if it's just me visiting on my own I can sleep on their sofa. Other than that I'm not spending any more money today, and certainly not on anything impulsive/ unnecessary!
All meals from stores. Snuffled some chocolate brioche from the staff room earlier
Banking checked. It'll be tight with my "free money" for the rest of the month
Longer day than usual at work (about 12 hours) as I have to stay late for an event tonight. Won't get any time back either :mad: I had a really rubbish day yesterday and am starting to wonder whether my job is a bit vulnerable going forward. I would be up the proverbial creek if I did get made redundant. I had a little chat with the OH last night saying I was concerned... I don't want to worry him but I think we need to have some sort of backup plan for the future. Everything is so cloak and dagger at work at the moment it seems
FPL and surveys to check
Have a lovely day everyone

Afternoon all
I feel a little bit like I'm walking round with a black cloud over my head at the moment. I went to bed early last night intending to get a good nights sleep but was awake on and off from 4am. I went into work early this morning to get some stuff done so didn't have time to check in. I feel a bit fed up and really grumpy so I suspect that I had better have another early night tonight.
But a list on here will keep me accountable...
check banking
minimise heating use
mark a set of books
full day teaching
go to Mr S after work for cat food but nothing else
load of washing
minimise heating use
don't make any big decisions
try not to lose my temper
wash up, bins out and hoover - no way dh will have done anything when I get home
might try for a soak in the bath. Not very :money: but will make me feel better.
Hope everyone is doing ok - I'm checking in from work so it should really be just a quick one.Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Hi Money Savers,
A reasonably good day on the money saving front. This is what I've done so far:
*Pegged laundry outside on the line. Windy day & warm so hoping it's dry.
*Free fitness - set timer for an hour's work in the garden & used it energetically clearing an overgrown border & forking it over.
*Found half a dozen or so apples I'd missed so picked those & made some apple sauce for the freezer. Also the absolute last few runner beans, rather big & tough, but sliced them & froze ready to go into a stew.
*Have received another £5 voucher from the online survey community I'm on (for a big brand) at the moment, so will update my signature before I sign off.
*Dinner as per meal plans - spaghetti with lots of garlic, herbs & sauteed chicken livers - a little ys find from the back of the freezer.
*May tweak meal plans for rest of week as neighbour brought us some fresh game.
*Budget check-in. Tight this month. I know I could transfer some money back to current account from the Car Fund but that seems to be defeating the object. I left a lower buffer than normal (new lawnmower & a few other bits & pieces) thinking this would be sufficient, but we have been stung for 2 mobile contracts each, as didn't realise we had to give 30 days notice that we were leaving a contract which had expired! I argued till I was blue in the face that if the contract ends totally on 31st Oct & we haven't extended it, then how can they justify needing 30 days notice. Needless to say this came to nothing, though I was told we might end up getting a small rebate on the old contract as we 'might not end up owing all of that month's money'. So the extra £42 has all but gobbled up this month's small buffer. Bah! More bah!! Anyway, at least I know & am in control.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Texted sister to see if she could re-line a skirt for me. Love the skirt but lining got caught in zip & is now so shredded I can't wear it. She reckons she can.
*Washed hair & let it dry naturally. Will have to get straighteners on it in a minute though, looks like it's home to several dysfunctional rats.
*Did several supermarket feedback surveys because I really want to win the vouchers, especially Waitrose.
*Finished knitting the front of Dad's jumper. Unfortunately, while I was doing this last night, Cat was busy wrecking the back section. I've managed to repair the damage but was not happy at all. Have cast on a sleeve this afternoon. Will progress that tonight.
OK, must pop out & fetch the laundry in now before it gets dark.
Try & have a relaxing evening, everyone.....CCL, that means you too!
Ally - amazing what one can get on prescription these days. No wonder you've always got so much energy, lol!
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Hi all!
Sorry been absent recently - but I have been thinking off you guys (and also thinking - damn that would look good on my list!)
I have taken inspiration from here and although I'm not doing the mins game - I have thrown a few bits out including 3 pairs of shoes, some bits for the old hoover and an empty foundation bottle! Does that count!?
I haven't caught up so hope everyone is well.
Today I have/will:-
* Check banks
* Take chicken out of freezer for dinner
* Put washing up away
* Take lunch to work (chicken wraps using crispy chicken bits I cooked on Monday for dinner which have also done last 2 days lunch)
* Charge phone in work
* Update work expenses
* Update spreadsheet, snowball and signature with small CC payment I made yesterday as money received from TCB
* Dinner from stores
* Meet friends for a walk - being picked up so free travel and exercise!
Think that's everything for today.Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

Hi all, been a bit awol, lots going on here. I was pleased with myself today because my neighbour brought round some apples from his garden. At first glance they looked a bit bruised and battered and there was a time when I would have probably just binned them (hangs head in shame). Even though he said they were eaters they have made a really nice crumble.
We have got someone coming around to give us a price for replacing the rest of our windows tomorrow and the plumber is finally booked to do the bathroom next month. We have the money set aside for this but we need to keep to a tight budget, especially as we are partly doing this to sell the house.
Sorry to hear about the car Clio, I have been there too. Hope you work something out.
Right, need to check my online banking then it might be a bit of telly then bed.0 -
Hey
I'm much happier now I'm home. Still pretty non stop although I didn't feel as though I got that much done all in all. I'm starting to fall way behind on my marking...
But I'm desperate for some good sleep as well.
Maria - hope you're doing ok
Clio - sorry to hear about your car. Mine packed up 2 years ago on the 21st December. I broke my heart because 3 months earlier I'd spent almost £1000 on repairs. That was the day I decided that an older car wasn't necessarily cheaper.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »[STRIKE]
