Buying AL buys back some patents and licence patents as exclusively Microsoft have 10 years use of such, AL will be renamed Nokia. Both companies offhived mobile, with all the experience and Nokia wanting handset sales again its buying AL.


Microsoft to Nokia is what Orange was to T-Mobile, a means to an end to avoid bankruptcy, Nokia like MG had sold its real estate and leased it back to raise cash, much needed cash to pay its debts due.

In September (2011) the Group entered into an extended license fee agreement with Alcatel-Lucent. The Group would pay Alcatel-Lucent US$40 million (equivalent to approximately HK$312 million) license fee for the use of the “ALCATEL” brand for certain products from 1 July 2011 to 31 December 2024.

Hi. May as well pop this onto this thread.........

I am also looking to change PAYG providers.....I need a bit of an all-rounder for sms - a few calls (I hardly use it for calls - mainly just taxis etc. when I'm out and about) and a bit of internet usage - but again this doesn't have to be high - I mainly use for whatsapp, viber and sometimes google maps). Also I'm often in the EU zone and occasionally need to take an important call - so I don't want to get wiped out by incoming call charges.

I saw an advert for 3 which seemed to have a decent PAYG tariff for my needs.

What do you guys think? Is it the best?

How about network coverage? I've been with 02 for a LONG time, but I've had issues with their signal - often people have said they've been unable to get in touch with me. I've even tried calling my own mobile from the house phone a few times in recent days and occasionally and it said "the other person has hung up" or "it has not been possible to connect your call".

So yeah, 3 ..should I change....?

Thats why Nokia sold Nokia Mobile before the Nokia bronco bolted, thus Alcatel-Lucent patents give Nokia access to mobile production again with a lack of needing outside licences, esp in LTE.

Yes, its a simple PAC in, do try the 3 coverage first on the website maps.

The map says 'very good service' - whatever that means in real terms.

Though my phone isn't listed in the "Is your device compatible' list :eek:.
Which I find a bit bizarre as my smart-phone can definitely handle 3G as it's using it right now. And as for an actual phone signal for calls and sms - I thought all mobile phones could handle that - or they'd be pretty useless, right?

Or am I missing something?

3G or 4G will cover it as a minimum, 3 has limited EE
