I wonder if I can pick your brains please.

I've been putting in my pot money from things I've sold etc (£20 for Whiz's bed, £10 for toys etc) as well as odd bits of change from my purse. I was wondering about still saving my shrapnel but in an unsealed jar and then, when it gets big, cashing it in with a bank and putting it into a savings plan where I earn interest. Also I've started doing Quidco and am hoping to be in line for over £20 worth of cashback which will go into my account so putting that into a savings account linked to my current account. I plan to write down bogof etc from my shopping and then transfer that along with other money from my current account into the savings account.

This way it is still saving but it is earning a bit of interest too - does it still fit in with the whole sealed pot idea or am I going off at a tangent here?

    Thanks

Come join my virtual sealed pot challenge 2016...

Its like a sealed pot but online (yay) so you can get interest (double yay) you can either pot (AKA transfer) weekly or monthly, I use all my cash backs from TCB and Quidco when they are paid they get transferred and any other cashback or interest....

come over and have a read :-)

I have a count up every three months or so, especially when going away, as I don't like too much money in the house. It seems to be alright, so long as it's savings and you put the amount banked on your signature so it doesn't get forgotten at opening time. You will also have interest to add as well :money:

I will put a £1 in the pot the morrow for posting.

Hope you all having a great week and staying warm and dry

Those pants are amazing, Ruth, excellent work!!!!! :T I don't know why, but I wasn't thinking that'd be THAT GOOD when jakes-mum said about them. Brilliant saving too!!

hahahahaha!! I knew you were thinking they wouldn't be that great. That's why i HAD to post a photo. I don't often go around flashing my pants to strangers........ honest!!

I potted over £5 last night. I didn't count but i do know £2.18 of that belonged to my OH :D

We went for dinner last night. Mother and i really wanted a mixed grill but after ordering we were told there was only 1 left (they had run out of lamb chops, they offered to swap my lamb chop for another sausage!!!!!!!!! A sausage!!!! goodness me i tell you!!!!!) so i changed my order to a chicken dish. They changed the price to the new total then took another £7 something off!!!!!

Message for Sue (did try to PM but your message box is full!):

Sue, I am going to switch over to the Virtual Pot Challenge as this way I get interest on my savings too. I have a current account that gives 5% interest and this is just for me - no bills or anything go from it so it is for Christmas/nice treats etc etc. I'm not sure if I can do both Challenges - if this is OK then great but if not then just let me know and I'll switch right over to the VPC. I've put the total cash so far on my SPC signature so we can keep a log of it and I've got £47 so pretty good isn't it!

    Thanks very much.

    You can do both :)

I do both and it works out great for me.

i use my VSP for the monthly card challenge and transferring money left over in my bank at the end of the month and i use the SPC for emptying my purse of actual coins or when the OH gives me his change.

You can count up your SPC and add it to your VSP though the year if you worry about having too much money in the house.

I think the 2 challenges work perfectly together :)

Good afternoon all Potters! I hope everyone's well and enjoying the day, even if it is a freezing one! For all those who are poorly or a little low for any reason here are some {{{hugs}}} to help you through, and get you well soon. :grinheart

You plop those £5ers, or anything else, away as often as you wish, Louise, and enjoy doing so! ;)

I did indeedy pot 74 x £2 coins Sue :D Went to the bank, asked for all my cashback in £2 coins :rotfl:, DH said 'they won't give it all to you in £2's!' pfft, shows what he knows! Tin now has a lovely weight to it, but still has lots of room for more :D

Aha...and there was me thinking it was a typo, jakes-mum, I should've known better. Your DH should know you better by now too than to think you couldn't have your way!! :rotfl: Well done and I'm so pleased you've had more response from parents.

Keeping up the great work then, Chutney, you're doing so well!

Excellent actions and savings, Kim_13, all the best with later on too.....

    ...you too, 32b3.

Hi Mumof2, sorry my In box was full, I've sorted it out now though so all's well. :) I'm more than happy for anyone to save on SPC as you've said, then...when they wish, to bank their savings every so often so they can gain interest or as a means of safe-keeping such as Lynne does! I'm all for us getting as much from our money as is possible.

So, if you wish to bank your money every few weeks then go ahead! Just make a note of how much so you don't forget when November comes. If you want to save by using an open pot then do so as you sound completely committed to saving anyway. I'll be honest in saying that I don't encourage anything other than saving with a SP as some members have never saved before, so if they did it any differently, the temptation to dip in might be too great and they could end up not saving at all! Some have even said as much!

Re Quidco: e.g. jakes-mum etc uses it, then pots what she/they send her, then banks it a little later which is perfectly ok. We try hard to only have winners on SPC. :grinheart Whatever you do, always be so very proud and happy about having the desire to save..and fulfilling it!! :D

I'm glad we got our knickers untwisted, TheDapster, well yours at least!!! :rotfl:

Thanks so much for the lovely wishes, Lynne, thanks also for your input to Mumof2. :)

Sorry to hear about your air con, TheCatsandDogsMother, you and the dogs must be sweltering out there, though it's a great idea with the dogs and ice. It's the complete opposite here - though for once we know it'll end soon, though whether it returns or not may be a different matter! :(

Nice work with the £5er, Ruth. Who, in their right mind would allow a restaurant to replace a lamb chop with a SAUSAGE!!!!!!! They clearly didn't reckon on dealing with a savvy SPCer! ;)

Afternoon to you, mrs-moneypenny, and great work with your saving!
