Thanks for the welcome! I emptied my purse last night and divided it up into 8 amounts, one for each day of the penny savings. Scored those amounts off my checklist. total so far is £20.50 just from doing that!

Potted £20 today, money from a social club payout before Christmas I'd forgotten about, just found the envelopes today!

Sad day in the lucyhope household today, our 17 year old cat died in my arms this morning, the house seems so empty already, but we had decided some time ago that we wouldn't have another pet now DH has retired so we can go away and not have to rely on DD2 and her DH to cat sit especially as they now have a new baby.

  • So sorry to hear about the loss of your cat, lucyhope. As a fellow cat-lover and lifetime cat owner I know what you must be going through at the moment. Big hugs to you:kisses3:

When our adored cat died just a week shy of her 20th birthday we decided not to have another. OH had taken early retirement and I was cutting back my hours and we felt it was the ideal time to travel a bit. We had to really harden our hearts as well-meaning friends who know how soppy we are about cats kept offering us kittens:eek:. It's very rural here and there was also a constant stream of hungry ferals trying their luck at our door.

We didn't succumb until one particular tiny and bedraggled kitten took up residence under our shed. We eventually managed to trap him with the intention of fattening him up a bit, getting the vet to check him over and de-flea and de-worm him. He was so cute I was sure I could find a loving home for him;)

But guess what? 8 years down the line we still have him, when push came to shove I just couldn't part with him:o. He's been a tie though, we never went travelling as planned but I'd hate to be without him. He's so loving and great fun to have around but we've definitely said he'll be the last we have;). If he lives as long as the last one we'll be another 12 years older and too geriatric to venture further than a day trip to the seadside:rotfl:

We've had that happen to us carbootcrazy, a child brought one to the door asking if this was our kitten, when I said no she asked if we could look after it until the owners were found, we had him about 12 years.
I found a 6 or 7 day old kitten abandoned on our back garden one day, brought her in, rang the RSPCA who said they couldn't take her until she was weaned, by that time it was Christmas and I didn't want her going to someone who didn't know a cat is for life, she was 7 when she died.
We're going to have to be wary of well meaning friends too, I've lost count of the kittens we've been offered over the years, at one time we had 4 cats just because I couldn't bear the thought of what could happen if we didn't take them!
