New Build Nightmare - Avant Homes
Comments
-
avant homes was the group name,
they have consolidated all the sub brands (companies they have bought up) into the new name.
they rebranded the hethersett (Norfolk development) last month.0 -
just to follow this up
my brother just completed on his Avant homes (ben bailey) new build
on completion the list of issues are:
1) wrong white goods to what was ordered, all bottom of the range hoover appliances (fridge is also damaged)
2) hoover gas hob, where there should be a induction
3) white doors, rather then natural wood.
4) double car port hasn't been built, "as they needed the parking spaces for tradesmens vans"
5) every single (without exaggeration) kitchen unit, has cracks, chips or missing handles
6) all white gloss paint was wet
7) Nails sticking out of stair case
8) floor tiles raised, preventing bathroom door opening
9) wood work not nailed down, coming away from walls
10) loose cabling for kitchen unit lights just sitting on top of kitchen cupboards
11) evidence (!) of toilets being used
12) poor finish (or lack of any) between external doors and brickwork
it was also avant homes that pushed for the completion date, my brother was happy (as a FTB) to wait till after Christmas...
update...
since moving in, the following has happened.
1) avant have realised that they havent got enough space to build the carport, and that they have got the boundries wrong, they have moved the fence back into my brothers garden, and taken a slice of the nextdoors drive way (thankfully not sold yet, could have been awkward)
2) whilst moving the fence, put up temporary fencing, which striaght away blew down on top of my brothers partners car (she did get a bunch of flowers to say sorry, thankfully no damaged found on car)
3) the sink in the en-suite randomly fell off the wall, whilst everyone was downstairs (inc 2 year old!)
he has also been told that the whole sales team for the area and the site manager have been sacked!
as a lot of promises have been made to customers that the company did not offer (induction hobs, washer dryer, shed etc)0 -
Avant Homes (formerly Ben Bailey) are indeed a nightmare. Having downsized to a new house with the idea of life being easier after retirement we have experienced an almost endless string of problems over the last 2 years. We are still waiting for problems to be resolved that were reported over a year ago. Currently we have no hot water due to a cylinder leakage and we also have buckets on the floor to catch rainwater that is coming through the ceiling and seeping into an electrical light fitting. Customer Services are not very responsive.... probably overstretched with other people's problems as well.0

P.S. If the response to Avant Homes Customer Service is not satisfactory inform NHBC claims@nhbc.co.uk
And a complaint to the Managing Director may prompt some action colin.lewis@avanthomes.co.uk0 -
And here is some evidence of the build quality from Avant Homes youtu.be/GiFTwHCwBUw0

What a nightmare!!:jFinally going to be a homeowner:T0

Cheer up. You're homeowners now forgoodness sake!
Not in rented like me with big deposit and house prices wobbling.0 -
I can entirely sympathise with you...we are in the middle of an argument with this mob and, although the local site team are lovely folks, their senior management doesn't give a fig whether you're happy or not.
They've denied any responsibility for the various issues I've raised with them about their "panel solicitor" saying that he was "our" solicitor and they wenxpuld have used someone else. We were told we HAD to use their solicitor who then cocked up the completion statements and ended up holding us to ransom for an extra payment 5 minutes before the removals men had to knockoff for the day...not great with a young family and family pet to try to accommodate at the last minute.
The response of the CEO was laughably bad and basically that we were trying to blackmail them into compensation!! This, instead of taking some responsibility and owning his inept company's issues.
If he thinks we're done, he's sorely mistaken.....
Avoid them like the plague!0 -

Will probably make bu**er all difference to them but well worth a pop..0 -
Forcing panel solicitors on any buyer is part of the Avant conspiracy plus a major breach of Consumer Code. Report your experience to the Consumer Code for House Builders and win the compensation you deserve.0
