New Build Nightmare - Avant Homes

I can't give any advice, I will leave that to the experts, but I can give my sympathy.
This is one reason why hell would freeze over before I would ever go for a new build.
And as for the post above me ^^^ why on earth should anyone be TOLD what they can and can't do to their own house that they own?! Yes of course you should be stopped from adding a floor, or having a 60 feet Starship Enterprise on your roof, but no satellite dish and no works van outside your house? !!!!!!?!
I hope it's all sorted soon Hobbgoblin.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!0 -
I have to say the horror stories I see about Avant almost match that of Persimmon.
There are good new builds out there, but in sure I would give these developers a miss.0 -
1) wrong white goods to what was ordered, all bottom of the range hoover appliances (fridge is also damaged)
2) hoover gas hob, where there should be a induction
3) white doors, rather then natural wood.
4) double car port hasn't been built, "as they needed the parking spaces for tradesmens vans"
5) every single (without exaggeration) kitchen unit, has cracks, chips or missing handles
6) all white gloss paint was wet
7) Nails sticking out of stair case
8) floor tiles raised, preventing bathroom door opening
9) wood work not nailed down, coming away from walls
10) loose cabling for kitchen unit lights just sitting on top of kitchen cupboards
11) evidence (!) of toilets being used
12) poor finish (or lack of any) between external doors and brickwork
Perhaps your brother should get a professional snagger in ... to get the full list!0 -

Because they are covenants written in when you agree to buy. Whether they are enforced or not...
gregsayer, your brother should have opportune to do a snagging list and complain.0 -
A girl form work bought a new build and the conditions, no sky dish to be attached to the outside wall and no works van to parked outside on display. Stuff that.
All fairly standard stuff in some areas - presumably she did read the deeds/conditions before making the biggest purchase of her life ?0 -
With regards to the satellite dish- we have some new builds going onto land that was owned by a farmer near us. The stipulations are very tight and satellite dishes is one of them. Think the builders have ended up negotiating a deal with BT to provide the tv.0

Its not just new developments which have restrictions about parking business vehicles and having sky dishes installed on the outside of properties, Its a very common stipulation in conservation areas. They usually install the satellite dish in the loft space.
As for business vehicles, I haven't got a problem with it myself but who decides what type of vehicle is acceptable? For example, a transit van on your driveway is one thing but a larger box van parked on the pavement might cause an obstruction or block your neighbours view from their window!0 -
how would it get the signal, also common one but builders ignoreDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

There is an Avant Homes site near me, and in the last 18 months it has been called Country & Metropolitan, Ben Bailey, and then Avant Homes. Why would any one trust a builder that changes its name every six months.0
