Having a lovely time on holiday....

  • Great to see the OP is taking such a positive view about his extended holiday instead of the whiney,self-indulgent attitude of those sun-tanned idiots abusing the British Ambassador at Sharm airport demanding the government " do somefink."

One thing that did strike me watching the TV footage - why were there so many school kids still on holiday when the half-term break was over ?

Because it's probably cheaper to book the holiday and pay the fines than it is to take them at half term;)

It's still half term in some parts of the country (or last week was, anyway).

True! We have four children with us and it is way cheaper to pay the fine.

Flight still on for Tuesday afternoon. Planes were taking off yesterday like it was Gatwick, 11,000 back to Russia in 24 hours. I have heard two planes of tourists from Ukraine have arrived today.

Because some parents think that a jolly in the sun is more important than education? ;)

That's for the parents to decide! For many having a family holiday is simply too expensive during school holidays, although I haven't seen many British children here, but most people are hidden away in AI resorts.

    I share your feelings.
An entire summer off and Christmas and New Year just round the corner and the poor dears must be in dire need of a break. ;)

    Home.

The hell of Sharm airport! Will never return. Security is now 100% but they just don't have the space to do it. Spent most of the time hemmed in like cattle crushed against each other waiting to clear security for the second time.

Well done to easyjet though, they gave us 15 euros to spend air side for food and comped us loads of stuff on the flight and there was even a sing song to celebrate 20 years of easyjet!

Luggage should be with us with in a week.

Did you return on an easyJet plane or Titan Airways ?

I doubt there'd be an EasyJet anniversary singsong aboard a Titan flight..!

Apparently there were already 20,000 British suitcases piled up in the airport by Monday night, awaiting transport to UK by Egypt Air. The Russians are using Egyptian IL-76 military transport planes. All other nationalities are taking their luggage with them as normal.
