Gmail has had end-to-end encryption for some time now. Of course being American owned and the NSA and GCHQ being best buddies I'm not sure just what that is worth.the second you check your email you are unmasked
I think people are worried about rather more than the specifics of this bill which is about routine access without any court orders to data ISPs will have to store and keep for a year.
That capture and storage will have a cost which will be borne by users obviously and as it appears only to be linking individual premises (via the ISP allocated IP) to websites visited but not pages on those websites (presumably to keep the data volume within bounds) along with the timings of those visits.
That is fairly easily circumvented and doubtless will be by any potential criminal with more than two brain cells (ie those with any chance of succeeding in their nefarious plans) so to my mind this begs the question - Why bother? It's just like the cookie rubbish all over again - regulaton that increases costs and produces virtually no conceivable benefit.0 -

That was a shockingly bad 'thought out' (?) law!:idea:0 -
Just because you use a vpn/tor and think are anon, the second you check your email you are unmasked, or check service status of elecricity or mobile, banking, ebay, etc, your previous browsing history can now be attributed to you - we know who you are

But you'd have to be pretty stupid to use the same browsing session for anonymous browsing AND THEN enter personally-identifiable details.
Utility companies, banks, eBay, etc. NEED to know your identity in order to be able to serve you. News websites and forums have no need to be able to personally identify you.0 -
I've used a VPN on mobile devices for a while as I often use open Wifi hotspots. I've started using it on the desktop now just to annoy the gits in the very unlikely event they ever bother to look at my accesses.0

Don't confuse Anonymity with Privacy.....You can achieve the latter but not the former.........
If you think that Bulk collection of data makes any sense whatsoever, then you are either a card carrying Tory, or mentally unstable.......Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
A PIRATE
Not an Alcoholic...!0
