If you bank with Barclays they don't even allow you to cancel cheque books over the phone, so the OP's story may well be true.
Please do not try and spread lies. Barclays do allow you to cancel a cheque book if you have telephone banking. And you know that as it's been discussed in the thread you had opened about it.
Don't think the OP was complaining about Barclays, anyway?0 -

You must register for telephone banking. By default, you are not registered for telephone banking, so by default, you cannot cancel a Barclays chequebook over the phone.
But lets not start a new discussion.
The OP was not, but I was responding to a post which said you do not have to jump though hoops to cancel something.0 -

Hello All,
I have been rewarded the full amount stolen from me. Just in time for Christmas! I had a phone call last week from RBS confirming that they will make the payment. I had a strong argument and they thought it was fair. Thanks for all your advice! I am off shopping for our holiday!0 -

I will reiterate what I said in my earlier post about it not being over just yet, you still should obtain copies of your credit report from all 3 CRAs to see if the thief has applied for anything else you don't know about and send a SAR to CIFAS because I've read several threads on here where Natwest have issued CIFAS markers and the person only found out when they applied for and were rejected for credit.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0
