"I'd imagine the number of current accounts with over £12,000 in held by council flat owners is pretty small"
Why do you imagine that? You would be surprised how many people are in council/housing associations homes that can afford to live in private accommodation.
You may well be right, but anyone with £12K in a NatWest current account paying 0% interest is just wasting money.0 -

As 70% of the population have £2000 or under in savings I'd suggest that the number who have £12,000 in savings is small, and the number keeping it in a current account is smaller still.0

Hence my earlier observation. Then to intercept two separate individual pieces of mail. Can only be an inside job. The fact that somebody knew there was £12k in the account merely adds to the evidence. Can understand why the bank is currently reluctant to become involved as nothing to answer for.0 -

How is it a fact? are you involved in the case? How can you confidently sit there on your PC and type on your keyboard and say that that is a fact? Good thing you just write things on forums and don't work.0 -

You posted that the thieves took £12,000 from you. That seems to be some sort of fact, if we can believe that you posted facts.Workingmum1990 wrote: »They took£12,000.
Are you saying now saying they didn't take £12,000?Workingmum1990 wrote: »Good thing you just write things on forums and don't work.0 -
Are you saying now saying they didn't take £12,000?
They took £12K. You said that the KNEW that there was £12K. Stealing £12K and knowing that there is £12K in an account is different. You implied that they knew that there was £12K in the account before they stole it. How do you know that as being a fact? Are you saying now saying they didn't take £12,000?How do you conclude that people don't work if they post on forums? Is it just Thrugelmir who doesn't work? If they changed their nick to workingthrugelmir, would that make them someone who works?
Na Nah, I conduced that Thrugelmir, in specific didn't work. Dont generalise and say 'people'. I used Thrugelmir analysis and made a judgment and called it a fact. Just like what they did to my case. I had no evidence but stated that they didn't work.0 -
It can of course be very smart to keep £12K in a current account. As long as it's not in one that pays no interest, like all the Natwest ones.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

The OP seems to have edited her first post so not sure what she has deleted
What information do you need to give the bank to report a lost or stolen card? I know if ive ever had to call a bank I have to jump through hoops to prove who I am
If someone stole the post , remembering the pin and card will come in separate letters , normally on separate days the person would have had to have been hanging about for quite a few days , and they would have had to take every days post until they got the what they wanted .
Presumably the OP didnt need to use her debit card from the moment it was cancelled until the time she found out the fraud had taken place?
How was the money withdrawn ? many years ago i used to have to take out about £4/£4k a week to pay wages , the bank often didn't have that amount of cash spare I can't remember if i had to take extra idVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
If you bank with Barclays they don't even allow you to cancel cheque books over the phone, so the OP's story may well be true.0
