  • B17c - sorry to hear about your gran

    Well done to the losers!

miss_independent - I got the xmas book free with a countdown. There are a few nice recipes in it but I probably wouldn't have bought it.

As far as xmas goes, I think the best thing is to remember that its a day or two at most. Last year I had only just joined SW again and I still managed to lose a lb over xmas week. I basically ate SW friendly all xmas eve except for a slice of cake and glass of wine in evening. Then xmas day I made most of the dinner elements SW friendly. Just bread sauce, pigs in blankets and trifle that weren't. Had a nice but light breakfast and a few picky bits in evening. Boxing day I usually do a buffet so that's probably the hardest day for me but I still got a few SW friendly options in. For me the killer would be alcohol, but given that I will have a 4 month old to deal with this year I won't be going crazy on that front!

I can post a few recipe ideas if there are things you have in mind.

    Thanks musogirl !

I think its all the little extras in the house combined with boredom (my Christmases are very quiet) and saying "its only Christmas once a year!" that make it a difficult time for my waistline! I've already politely requested that big tins of Chocolate are banned after the pictures I saw on this thread. Maybe I should try flexi-synning. I've been asking myself things like, "Do I even like mince pies/christmas cake etc?!" and I'm not sure if I do. At the moment a Raspberry Pavlova is sounding more appealing than Christmas Pud...maybe I just need to rethink things and get out of habit. As you say, Christmas Dinner can easily be mainly syn free.

Horrific news about Paris, my heart goes out to everyone affected... #vivelafrance #prayforparis
Had some bad news myself yesterday, my Gran was taken into hospital with suspected pneumonia, after all the X-rays and tests etc it's actually lung and kidney cancer. She had breast cancer years ago but was given the all clear, we're hoping to find out more tomorrow...

    Today I had:
Seafood sticks and mushy peas with mint sauce
Hungarian goulash with spring greens and mash
3 sesame ryvita (HeB) with 1x35g pot of Philly light (HeA)
    2 hifi light (HeB)
Syns: jelly and fruit, glass of red wine.

Back at work tomorrow night so I'll take the last of the goulash to work with a couple of satsuma's and hifi bars...

Hope everyone's having a good weekend!
never know what to say other than sorry to hear you news, big hugs x x

So nice to read through your posts this morning - you really are a lovely crowd. :)

B17c, so sorry to read about your Gran x

Just checking in to say I gained weight this week. After losing 4lbs in week 1, I gained 2lbs this week and I'm certain I followed the plan to the letter. Very disappointed but I'll keep going...

just to say I lost 4lb my first week and gained 2lbs the following week, looking at my diaries I ate much more the first week than I did the second. Could that be a reason? Just so know I went on to lose 3+ stone and have been at target 9+ years! If I can do it, anyone can :D. Good luck and keep the faith :A

Just to echo the shock at what's happened in Paris, am horrified and now terrified as my son is going to a rock concert at Wembley in a couple of weeks. There is so much evil in this world, mostly in the name of religion. Why?? :(
Its not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T

    TIE~~agree re events in Paris.
My take on it, however simplistic , is that we cant give in to them, from the point of view that if we stop living our lives we let them win.

Hello all, checking in after a few days away. Been catching up on the thread - congrats to all those who've lost, and sorry to those who haven't.

I've been in London for a short break and not exactly stayed on plan!! To be fair I managed to stay fairly sensible and never over indulged (even managed to stay sensible at hotel buffet breakfast!), but at the same time I wasn't keeping track of syns and I'm fairly sure I didn't have enough speed food. Weighing in tomorrow night, will be ok with a STS but hoping not to have gained. Either way, back on plan now :)

ETA: had a sneaky peek at the scales and currently showing a 1lb loss, so feeling fairly optimistic about "official" weigh in tomorrow

    For Christmas...

I am taking the day "off" in the sense of I'm not really going to be tracking. Mainly because we'll be at my MILs for lunch and I don't know exactly how she's preparing everything. So I'll just eat what I fancy for the main meal and not worry about it. I've never been the type to pile my plate high "because it's Christmas" so it'll just be like having a Sunday roast, really.

But I agree to question whether you're eating anything because it's tradition/habit, or because you actually want or even like it. I have zero desire to eat a mince pie (etc) the other 364 days a year, why should that day be any different? So I won't be buying any.

Feeling quite Bah Humbug about it all this year though. More than usual. :rotfl:

Just realised I bought some regular Alpen bars instead of Alpen Lights  Will have to save them for days when I've got plenty of syns to spare. Anyone know the syns for the chocolate and caramel ones? Can't find them, but most of the regular Alpen bars seem to be around 5-6 syns. Luckily I do have some Lights in the cupboard as well - will have to be more careful next time I'm shopping!

Chocolate and fudge is 5.5 so I think you're about right.

Welcome ruby and congratulations.:) Sounds like you're straight back in the zone so much better than letting it slide. WI Monday is perfect for the challenge.

I've never seen much logic in flexi synning missindependent other than that whatever you have it's better to get back on plan the next day rather than have a s*d it attitude. Personally I try my absolute best to stay within a 105 per week syn bank so when I go over syns at weekends I rein it back in the days following.

When I was getting to target I had my best ever loss (5.5lbs) at WI on 30th December. My consultant was amazed and talks about it often. I didn't get SoW because I'd gained the week before because of party nibbles leading up. Christmas itself is relatively easy IMO as there's so much lean meat and veg and satsumas about. It's avoiding the crisps in the lead up that I have a problem with.:o

Thank you for that, TakeItEazy - reassuring to read (and thanks to Shala and Beanie and anyone else who posted encouragement). Unfortunately I didn't read it in time to save myself from diving into chocolate  but I'm not going to to let this spill over into tomorrow (like I have all the other times).

I know what you mean about worrying about loved ones being in places like Wembley, but everyone will be extra vigilant for the next few weeks. It is scary that the actions of a few can cause such devastation to many.

    Morning :)

Reporting in with a STS this week, which is actually a relief as I'd gained when I had a sneaky peak yesterday. I went off the rails on Saturday - we ate at friends and it wasn't particularly SW friendly and I [STRIKE]couldn't[/STRIKE] didn't say no to pudding. :o

Hope you've all survived the bad weather unscathed, ditto to all thoughts on the events in Paris at the weekend. :(

TIE - sorry to hear about your gran - kidney cancer is a shocker, you can have it for years and not know about it. ((Hugs))

Welcome new people, and returners and well done to everyone who has lost this week.

Catch you later for the chart.
