5 pence Bag Charge, 1 year manufacturer guarantee

They are called single use for a reason.0

We have had the so called "Bag Tax" in Wales for four years and I have never paid for a bag.
It only takes a bit of forethought.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

For the avoidance of doubt, lets be specific to Tesco Bags that acually state on the side they can be re-used at home, thus impling that they are a product that is designed to be re-used. Obviously we have to use he bag for its designed purpose 'carrying items that could be found in tesco' (pretty much anything)
What do people think? Should i go and ask!!!
It says:1.5 Relationship with the Sale of Goods Act
8. Other than to require sellers to charge for single use carrier bags, the Regulations do not interfere with the contract of sale between sellers and customers; the legislation governing the sale of goods will apply to the sale of single use carrier bags as it applies to other goods sold by sellers.
9. This means that the customer will be entitled to a refund or replacement if a single use carrier bag is not of satisfactory quality and this includes being fit for the purpose for which single use carrier bags are commonly supplied.
10. For example (and very broadly speaking), if a customer buys a carrier bag which splits whilst being filled or on the way home, the customer has the right to expect the seller to provide a further bag that is ‘fit for purpose’. In this instance a seller should only charge the customer for one bag and count one bag as being sold for the purposes of record keeping. This is because only one bag is supplied for the purpose of enabling the goods to be taken away.
11. This differs from a situation where a customer returns an item to the store where it was purchased for a refund and also requests a refund for the carrier bag that was purchased at the same time to carry the goods home. If there was nothing wrong with the bag, then whether a refund is offered for the bag is entirely a matter for the retailer concerned. If the retailer decides to refund the cost of the bag as a matter of customer service, the refund will not be deductable from the gross amount received by way of charges for bags. This is because the bag was supplied for the purpose of enabling the goods to be taken away.
*I'll sit back and wait now for someone to point out that for some obscure product there is a law requiring a manufacturer's guarantee.

Of course there is no mention of a manufacturer's one year guarantee, as there is no legislation that states that a manufacturer must offer a one year guarantee on anything*.

Isn't there a secret EU law that stipulates that there must be a minimum 2 year guarantee on all goods sold to consumers?0 -
I'd echo the above.
The 5p charge is for single use plastic bags, as per the law. Although I think this is being flouted in some places (I've heard of people charging for paper bags), the inference would be that if you pay 5p for a plastic bag that you didn't use to have to pay 5p for, it's only fit for one use.
Now this would be different if it was advertised as multiple use, however. I expect most places will replace a bag that has split and was advertised as multiple use, so worth asking. For the sake of 5p though, if they say no, I'd just walk away and not pursue any further.0 -

I'm sure that it was strong enough to be washed, dried and reused many times!
They certainly had that stuff in my primary school's unseated outside toilets. Two reasons to try and hold out till you got home:eek:0 -
Not the 5p ones, the 10p+ ones are bags for life that they will swap. The 5p ones are throwaway items that even if they last for more than one use of carrying things start to break down quickly.Keep_pedalling wrote: »They certainly had that stuff in my primary school's unseated outside toilets. Would anybody really choose to pay 5p for a single-usebag as opposed to 10p for one that you can take back for a new one again & again?
Toilets with no seats & Izal toilet paper - now that's a double-whsmmy.;)
That was supposed to say unheated, I seem to remember that they did have wooden seats which did not help much in deepest winter when they could get quite frosted especially during the winter of 62/63.0 -

6p most places iv'e been.
But indeed I would rather have the better bag.
Or that places started using paper bags and didn't charge.
Had to order 100's of the "single use" plastic bags from amazon though as I do need them and did re-use them all.0
