5 pence Bag Charge, 1 year manufacturer guarantee

Does the 5 pence Bag Charge mean you now get a 1 year manufacturer guarantee?

For the avoidance of doubt, lets be specific to Tesco Bags that acually state on the side they can be re-used at home, thus impling that they are a product that is designed to be re-used. Obviously we have to use he bag for its designed purpose 'carrying items that could be found in tesco' (pretty much anything)

What do people think? Should i go and ask!!!

I'm pretty certain tesco would swap a carrier bag for free if you took a broken one back in.

Not the 5p ones, the 10p+ ones are bags for life that they will swap. The 5p ones are throwaway items that even if they last for more than one use of carrying things start to break down quickly.

I purchased a very expensive bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and it only lasted half an hour, do you think I can claim a replacement? Come to that what about all those toilet rolls I've purchased over the years:D

Here in Wales the 5p charge is donated to charity, however it appears that retailers pocket it in England. Therefore, in Wales I guess it could (legally) be viewed as a donation to charity.

I don't think Tesco offer a 1 year manufacture guarantee on their 5p bags. It's not a legal requirement that they should.

A court would probably view them as consumable items, similar to batteries.

    Not quite correct.
In Wales (as in England), the retailer has the option to donate the profits from the sale of the bags to charity but they are under no legal obligation to do so.

Toilet paper is useless after the first use.

And food never tastes the same after the first pass.

    So it seems.

When the charge was introduced here in Wales the charity aspect was widely publicised. Perhaps to sweeten the pill.

It appears that the bags are only meant to be used once (single-use).

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/single-use-plastic-carrier-bags-why-were-introducing-the-charge/carrier-bags-why-theres-a-5p-charge:
The law now requires large shops in England to charge 5p for all single-use plastic carrier bags. Charging started on 5 October 2015.

I take it that you didn't go to a school that used this stuff:

I'm sure that it was strong enough to be washed, dried and reused many times!
