PS4 - a few questions

Hi,
Do you think the PS4 consoles will go down in price after Xmas, or does it not work like that? What's happened in previous Christmas's or with other consoles? I would like to buy, but not in any desperate hurry, so could wait after Xmas if I'm going to save a decent amount of money?
On a related note, I have seen second hand PS4's and even re-conditioned ones from Game. Would you recommend? Think they both come with a 12 month warranty (which I assume a brand new PS4 is exactly the same?)
Also, whilst I'm posting, what would you recommend me buying; and what are you most excited about that are yet to be released? I have on my list:
- Battlefront (pre)
- Uncharted 4 (pre)
- Metal Gear Solid V
- The Witcher 3
- Uncharted Collection
- PES 2016
Thanks!

If your not in a hurry to buy then yes why not wait, prices for them now wont go up after xmas, you could check what bundles are on offer on the black friday events.
How much are second hand machines compared to a new 1 ?
What games are you into ? Uncharted is a game I have heard a bit about from someone who plays it.

PS4 just had a price cut about a fortnight ago down to officially the £299.99 mark - up until then it had only been retail offering it at that price. (Sony still maintained the £329.99 price) There will be significant promotional activity though at this time of the year meaning you'll get a lot for that sort of price.
Black Friday might bring some cheaper deals, but I doubt they'll be of the same impact as they were last year where the price drops were significantly higher.
As for the list of games, I can only vouch for the one I've played (MGS) which is excellent, none of the others appeal to me on various levels. You should get a fair whack out of that, I'm sitting on over 100hrs so far (that's not a typo - 100) and it's still only 68% completion rate! Fallout 4 is another game which should be massive, it's more RPG than anything else but you know it's going to take a while to get through it.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
I can't recommend the Uncharted series enough! You should check out The Last Of Us too.Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. V interested in this thread.
Want to buy a new console. The Wii we bought 7 years ago is hard to get appropriate games for now. We're on holiday around Cmas, so am thinking I might get a better deal on a PS4 at Heathrow. So no rush here to buy either.
As a side question, son is 11 and loves lego games, mario kart and those sorts of things. He hates football, I think he could get into shooting games like his dad loves on the PC. Is the PS4 a good one to go for do you think? A good range of games available for a Mario loving boy? I've already spotted Lego dimensions, but wondering if there is more beyond that.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I have a PS4 and I have a PC and the PS is collecting dust. I don't even know why I bought the bloody thing (oh, right, Uncharted...). Anyway, to each their own, I guess. If you're hell-bent on buying a PS4, I would suggest that you wait for some good bundles. Competition is sky-high around the holidays, so there will be some good deals waiting for you. Just wait for a good bundle and go for it, but don't expect that you will get the best deal ever. Sony have to make a profit, after all. Also not a fan of second hand anything, but that's just me. I like my things to be new.
As for the games, I like adventure games so I'm like, "Hellz, yeah, Uncharted!" :T Metal Gear has gone downhill for me and I didn't enjoy the last few titles. As for what Konami did to Kojima, they should be ashamed, so personally I'm not touching that game.
The Witcher 3 gets its own paragraph. As an oldschool Gothic 1 and 2 die-hard fan, I can say that the Witcher 3 is the best game I have ever played. Period! Gameplay, story, graphics, everything is awesome. I have poured more than 500 hours so far (playing on the highest difficulty, New Game+, and going for Hearts of Stone right now). I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Support CD Projekt Red - they have earned it, in my opinion.
Anyway, I hope that all of this helps you make the decision. Have fun, mate.0 -

You're probably better waiting until Black Friday to get the best deal. You will get some good deals in store but the difficulty there is comparing, so if I were you I would probably buy online.
I would also only consider buying a bundle. For instance, you could get a PS4 for lets say £250, or a PS4 with Fallout 4 and Fifa 16 for £280. Even if you don't want those games, the value of them will hold for a good while yet so you could cash them in and easily get £40 - £50 back.
Console Deals (who I have just posted a competition to) had a really good deal on Xbox one not long back, it was £20 less than anywhere else I could find it with an extra game. Probably worth checking with them around Black Friday to see what kind of bundles you could get on PS4. www.console-deals.com/
In regards to games The Witcher is awesome. PES is good but are all your mates going to be on Fifa? Star Wars Battlefront is coming out soon along with Rise of the Tomb Raider (which looks amazing!).0 -
I doubt there'll be any official price cuts on the PS4 as there's only just been one.
You may pick one up in special deals, such as black Friday and bundles as retailers try to undercut each other but i'd personally avoid these for a couple of reasons
- Firstly, these are likely to be the 500GB versions, not the 1TB version. My 500GB version was full within a year and I was constantly having to delete old games then re-install them and download all the patches again if I suddenly had an urge to play them. I ended up buying a bigger 3TB HDD at almost 80 quid so i'd recommend getting a 1TB unless you're willing to upgrade the HDD yourself within the first year.
- There is a new version of the PS4 out. Looks wise it is no different to the current versions, it just has a different model number, but the interior chips, fans etc are more efficient meaning it uses a lot less electricity and doesn't heat up as much so should be much more reliable in terms of shelf life. I doubt these will be on deals as they';ll be more likely to be trying to clear the old stock0 -
I've been playing The Witcher 3, it is excellent, if you like massive RPGs! If you have the previous uncharteds don't bother with the HD collection, it's such a money cow. Tomb Raider was awesome, and had great graphics on the PS3, I don't need the HD remake to enjoy it. I'd recommend a second hand bundle buy on Ebay, sure it MAY be faulty, but all the PS4s are glitched anyway. Get the 1TB version, then sell it for profit when all of them are gone and still want it, then get it bundled in an Ebay listing.0
