thank you for your post (Of which I agree to everything)
I would suggest when people post help, others can discuss the pros and cons whilst being civil. A simple 'I know better than you' is not the way forward to my mind.

This entire thread has been an unmitigated disaster. Ive had flu, thought I would help a few people whilst I wasn't feeling too great and end up (Once again) being verbally abused on here. I understand the sentiments completely, but no can can state I haven't posted a LOT of evidence to back me up with various things (Even going so far as to actually install malware!!)

I apologise for how I went sideways in the conversation, but I know when I am at least half right I will say as such. I have actually found evidence to suggest there are two AV programs that do scan in real time (Not AVAST, and I cant prove anything as yet. It might even be BS, who knows)

heres to new beginnings (After a fall over rocky start)
Don't need to apologise to anyone, the rik I know always admitted "his bad" and I know how much you have helped with many others problems , hope youu stick around mate:cool:

  • I said in #43 that """a crook can now have it away with your credit card / bank account / turn your phone into a relay point so that scammers can attack other peoples phones. PlayStore does regulate malware but not the default permissions the app maker does that and always leaves all the doors on your phone open to abuse by people who know how to abuse them."""

Its only a question of time, Durak, and Konka to name a few that between them had 5+ million downloads. How many malware apps on PlayStore is anyone's guess I've seen estimates from only dozens to 40,000 [AV snake oil sellers] I always assume all apps are potentially vulnerable to manipulation and potentially inherently malicious.

Most apps are throttled to near extinction on my phone, I've never counted them but 90% of all the Google and other apps are comatose and only woken by me at my will if I need one although I always allow them to update. For example my 'torch' has its uses maybe twice a year, all doors in and out are closed and its dormant - I can however wake it up with 2 swipes if needed - it can never act on its own.

Malaware and Virii are words that people use as interchangeable, they're not they are both distinctly different. The whole google play ecosystem is open to abuse, I for one given the explosion in growth of mobile apps, am surprised at the low level of success achieved by crims distributing malware that can be used to commit fraud. At the end of the day it takes only one bent app writer in collusion to create a bent 'sleeper' app binding with a malicious program - the problem is no one is watching the store, discovery seems to be on the decline.

I do not and would never use an AV on my phone, for RIK and others if I ever did discover malware on my phone I'd factory re-set within a millisecond with no thought of any other lesser alternatives. Best of luck, nice to see the old hands out of their wheelchairs and acknowledging each other again.

Now then me old mucka, REM when we used to do split shifts on here. I did the early turn and you did the graveyard shift with malware & virii for years. We must have put 2000 relentless boring hours a year over years helping poor sods get clean of drive-by-malware ? You take care and look after that cat or you'll hear from me !

Just for info, the advice I give on the front page does work for those that have battery issues. If anyone has any genuine questions about battery life or advice themselves I am happy to help :)

Cheers for everyones input (And the general 'old techie' community get together :p)

  • Rik, nice to see you around again - hope you're keeping well!

If you've rooted your phone, BetterBatteryStats is a useful tool for discovering apps triggering wakelocks and preventing the device from entering a low power state.

I've consistently had more battery problems with Samsung than any other manufacturer, specifically very hot batteries in my S3.
