Also, for those of you that 100% believe you cant possibly get infected please record the following :
Get the cheshire police scam on your android system then show us all how easy it is to sort out (Without an anti virus installed).
Then post it to youtube so we can all see how awesome you are.:idea:0 -

Lol - the old Cheshire police "virus" (or Yorkshire police variant)
Again, this is not a virus
It gets onto your phone from specially crafted websites that are set to autodownload the "viruses " apk to your phone.
At some point, you (or whoevers tablet it is) has changed a setting in android to ALLOW INSTALLATION FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES.
At this point, you (or whoever) will have had a big warning that this is not a safe option and unknown files can cause unwanted behaviour etc - and have ignored this warning .
To remove this "virus" simply turn off the device, boot to safe mode, and uninstall the APK..
That's it.
And im sorry if you think the forum has "gone to the dogs" because you incorrect advice is challenged.
You are advising people to install security software on a device where it is not needed to improve battery life which is utter tosh.
This piece of crapware couldn't have got on the device if you (or whoever) hadn't ticked a setting that allows it to.
Simply tick that setting back and your problem is gone.
That's all the security software would have done - advised you to tick this setting0 -
I'm not
I posted for the none techies. Do you really believe the none techies are going to be able to use that site? (Which is why I posted those two links as they're from two people who clearly don't know why their battery life is waning)
These posts are reminding me why I left this place. Too many chefs..............
Don't do that RIK you were a good and loyal contributor and have been missed. Stay and make an input as you did before. Best of luck M8!

A number of issues here :
The software does indeed request you turn on the setting, but it also does scan and find these dodgy APK files (Or attempting to install them)
I stand by my advice for a number of reasons :
My advice is for those people that have come onto the techie forum for advice. Not the techie people that can think for themselves.
Its a proven fact that even malware has been uploaded to the PLAY store (Even this last month), that gets past googles malware sensors.
So yes, I agree that an anti virus on android does partially slow it down. However, it can also seriously save peoples phones/tablets if they're either unlucky enough to download malware off the play store, or brave/stupid/ignorant enough to download elsewhere.
My phone has been off charge for 4h 32 minutes as I type. It has 84% battery left. Avast has used 2% of overall usage (So 0.32% over the 4.5 hours)
Before I did everything I did above it would have been FAR worse battery by now (Probably 65% or less left)
So back to my post : my method is safer than no anti virus installed, and uses very little battery power. People can decide for themselves if its 'worth it' or not.
I have put it on my family members tablet to try to protect myself (Because they wouldn't have been able to fix it, like probably well over 95% of MSE Forum users wouldn't have been able to)
I could go into Samsungs own bloatware, but was waiting for people with genuine queries to come along.
I believe the forum has gone to the dogs not because I am challenged, but because there are very few posters left that realise this simple fact - the MSE forums are to help people in need of help. Not to abuse those trying to help.
If I was none techie I would be genuinely frightened of asking questions on here due to all of the hostility. Its a shame its not policed better.:idea:0 -

Thank you very much sir. Its nice to be remembered :idea:0 -
Yes but YOU have come on here - dressed as a techie - giving techie advice that is plain wrong.
I cant be @ssed argueing the toss with you, if you want to believe that you need antivirus software on your phone tablet then you go right ahead and carry on using it.
For everyone else - simply don't tick the option to allow installation from unknown sources and you will be fine - I promise
Let this guy keep using AV software that's soul purpose is to get you to purchase one of its cousins on the pc mac etc
AV on android doesn't have the functionality to scan the actions of any other software on the device, that's not how android works - Its snake oil plain and simple
If you can show me one example of any AV on any android device that has detected and removed a virus then I will actually eat my hat and post a video of that on youtube. Hows that for you .0 -

You are going on record to state that there are NO known malware programs uploaded to google play and never have been?
No - No I am certainly not
Malware is not the same as virus
For malware to get on your phone, you actually have to click to install it at some point
A virus can spread its self
