I posted for the none techies. Do you really believe the none techies are going to be able to use that site? (Which is why I posted those two links as they're from two people who clearly don't know why their battery life is waning)
These posts are reminding me why I left this place. Too many chefs..............:idea:0 -

It requires a "data" connection ... whether that's mobile data or wifi doesn't matter, as long as it can connect to the Whatsapp server.0

Your advice is terrible.
Android devices (unless rooted) CANNOT BE INFECTED WITH VIRUSES ..
Im sick of hearing all this scaremongering.
The operating system is designed in a way that the running apps have no access to the OS files to change them in any way..
Installed a rouge app ?? simply uninstall it.
You cannot get a virus on an android device end of story
All the security products are snake-oilery of the highest order and will drain your battery themselves0 -
Buy a correct version of an Android phone [SELinux] in that first place, or install your own. The CyanogenMod which comes with Privacy Guard [a per-application permission management application] as part on the O/S for you to individualise absolutely everything. You can as AndyPix said be in control, but you have to start with the right independence-tool-box for the job. Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Unbelievable.
I don't know 'how' it got on, but it was infected to the point I couldn't reboot it (Going into continuous loop). I managed to force a hard reset but then it reloaded with the virus page. I then manged to safe reload and attempt to manually remove it (No luck, possibly with the strange way the archos behaved)
After 'many' attempts I gave up, safe booted and reset the whole tablet.
I wish I could have given it to you directly after this conversation to see how a mighty pro would have fixed it.
And no, it wasn't rooted:idea:0 -
You weren't "infected" - not atall - not one little bit
Nothing spread to your tablet automatically
No rogue program altered any of your operating system files
At no point did this app try to copy its self to any other media, or send a copy of its-self through mail etc
YOU DID NOT HAVE A VIRUS
YOU installed some crap app that YOU accepted the permissions of when you installed it.
Do yourself a favour, turn off the option to allow installation from any source
AND CHECK WHAT PERMISSIONS ANY POTENTIAL APPS WANT BEFORE YOU INSTALL THEM
eg, im installing a game, why is it asking for permissions to send SMS messages ??
You installed a "malwarey" app.. You did not have a virus nor will you ever get one on your tablet
Im out0 -
Also for info, it was the "chesire police authority" virus. And yes, my family member probably more than likely installed it (But almost certainly wouldn't have been able to had they put AVAST on.). My point is they didn't intentionally install a virus, and it definitely wasn't easy to get rid of (Well it was, but only with a complete system reset)
PS : This forum has gone to the dogs compared to what it was like a few years back.:idea:0
