Of course I'm not offended, Money. You know me better than that.

Luckily the weeding is all done now - for now - finished that yesterday. But I will look out for that weeding tool. I'm all for gadgets that make life easier......we aren't getting any younger are we. I'm all for cheating:rotfl:

I did do a bit of gardening in the end. I set up a table so I could do some repotting without bending. Ds2 bought me a hose pipe last week so I don't have to lug watering cans now.

There's usually a way to circumvent problems isn't there......I am not going to give up gardening;)

AC. Do you mind a bit of sartorial advice from an aging fashionista (I have been a Mod, Rock Chick, New Romantic and when I was Corporate Woman I nailed power dressing.:rotfl:). I scrub up quite well and still enjoy clothes.

TBH t shirts are not really appropriate office attire. If I had been your boss I would not have been impressed.

If you can't run to a lightweight linen suit then lightweight trousers, and a short sleeved formal shirt (alas not a Hawaiian shirt, lol) with/without a tie should have been acceptable.

Ideally you need to sit down with your boss and colleagues and discuss a plan of how to deal with extreme hot weather because I don't think we've done yet. There really needs to be a dress code or guidelines.

Sadly we Brits don't "do" hot weather very well........:rotfl: - we don't get enough practice.

Ive found The secret is to cover up - exposed flesh gets burnt - and wear natural fabrics like cotton or linen so skin can breathe.

Back to my day today - in a bizarre way it was good .
Not too hot . Plus , the facilities chap came and gave me a new fan .
Not a tower fan as preferred , but it's new and it' shows that I made the company listen to me . I had to prove a point the hard way , but all that needs now is for them to get an Extn lead and I'm good to go.

I had to decline a drink tonight with s friend due to transport issues where I work in the city.. He tried to change my mind , but what with so many people and prams , the pubs would be packed and we would achieve nothing .

Trying to sleep , but it's not gonna happen either ..

I'm tired so I'll be brief . The company insist on me wearing a cheap suit . It has to be blue etc.
I had to prove a point . The company sneered at my condition last year , and I have a final written warning because I was bullied by my boss and I stood up for myself . I wore the t shirt because I was refused a days leave . It would have been a wasted day . However, I told them I will feel very ill if I attended and can't work the full day .
So, in a nutshell , I played the health card for a change and they had to do something . I was right . I will never forgive them when they kicked me when I was down last year. I used to always be healthy.
    Rant over . I'm tired . Sorry ;)

Living in Spain I've become a bit of an authority on heat and fans :D. In my opinion ordinary 'round' fans, whether on a pole or on the floor, are far superior to tower fans so you've probably had a good outcome there.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

A bit bizarre this week . The first week with no viewings .
I've gotta expect this apparently , as its holiday time etc.
I will probably have to wait till next year now . I will be patient and do the little improvements to the flat in stages , and relax ;)

AC. You generally get a "second bounce" in September and October when activity levels pick up and The viewers come out in force again.......

Just wait until the new Autumn term starts and see what happens.

Re work attire....I think most companies have certain expectations of what employees should wear, especially in customer facing roles, even if they don't provide uniforms. Dark suits seem to be de rigour.

I used to work on building sites (in the sales complex), out and about in all weathers - ice and snow, searing heat. Despite the muck, dust and mud I was expected to look as if I had just stepped off the cover of Vogue. :rotfl: sometimes I was boiling, sometimes I was freezing.

It made no difference. I had to look good, full slap even if it was melting off my face, dark suits, no sandals or open toed shoes (Health and safety). When it was hot I drew the line at tights, fortunately I have good pins and could get away with fake tan. (I always cheated In winter and wore thermals underneath my posh suits)

Same as cabin crew really. They have to always look pristine - whether it's 40 degree heat or minus 0 makes no odds. They have to meet very high standards of presentation.

Im afraid it just goes with the territory. If you work for a living then you have to adapt to dress codes appropriate to your workplace. Failure to comply runs the risk of censure and can jeopardise your promotion prospects.

Even if you are self employed there are still times when you need to "toe the line" - meeting clients etc. My husband was self employed but still had to follow the rules. He called it "pimping himself out":rotfl:

My poor son has to wear black - thick thorn proof trousers and tops, and big heavy steel capped work boots. In the summer he swelters. In the winter he has to wear thermals and fingerless gloves because it's freezing. And all for the princely sum of £14k.....

By comparison the average office worker has it easy.

I watched some construction workers yesterday. It was only 11 in the morning and already it was sweltering. They were up on roofs.......no shade - poor Devils. A couple of the young ones had stripped to the waist and removed their hats. The older ones with more experience had kept their hats on and were covered up.

Anyway it seems cooler today so hopefully everyone will feel more comfortable. I think the heat will be back next week.
  • I don't do promotion . I work in a dump . The company had to look at the health issues. I proved a point and won . Let's move on com that now .
Thanks for the tip for viewings ll . I suppose I gotta sit tight and see what happens :)

    Q. How many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb.

    A. Depends on whether the lightbulb wants to be changed.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

38 pages of advice, help and support (not all from me) and several months later and no change in your circumstances.......Your nom de plume is "Another Casualty" mine is "Lesson Learnt".

I don't believe in playing the victim card and I don't do passive aggressive. When people are kind enough to offer me good advice I take heed and work out how I can use it to my best advantage. I don't sulk or snap people's heads off.

I don't think there's much point in continuing to offer advice and support if you are just going to take umbridge.

So I will just bid my fond farewell and wish you good luck with your endeavours.
  • Sorry if I appeared to be snappy , LL . Please forgive me . It wasn't aimed at you , or anyone else who have given me great advice.
It's just that work is a major part of my stress , and you could only fully understand my situation in the flesh so to speak .
I wanted to move away from that , and deal with the key issues In hand .
Please don't take it the wrong way . I was obviously rude without meaning to be and I apologise .
