  • Accidents happen LL , and the other driver seems reasonable about things like yourself ;)
Yeah, let the insurers deal with it and move on IMHO ;)
  • Difference of opinion ( major disagreement )!
I booked tomorrow off because of the above. My colleague has done the same . He has problems with his boiler and his wife ( also a boiler ).
I offered to work morning , and go at midday . Not good enough.

See what our boss has to say .
  • Looks like I'll have to do at least till 3.30.
    Not happy!
My colleague is talking to our boss now .
I've opened a can of worms, but I let her know the journey home is horrendous and it will take me over 2 hours to get home doing the late shift .

Oh dear poor you. I know it's too, late to do much now but why on earth has your boss not sorted out the air con.

I know there are rules under the various Railways Shops and Factories Premises Acts about working conditions and temperatures. Can you not invoke them......

My sons workplace hit 36 yesterday afternoon, he was drained when he got home but as it is a garden centre there's not a lot they can do. His uniform is black and he has to wear steel capped work boots and thick work socks for safety. I felt really sorry for him.

We are not a third world country - your employers have a duty of care to their workforce.

Can you wear something more comfortable than a suit and tie, even if it is just for a couple of days through the worst of the heat.

Your boss needs to get her act together.

Does your worplace have fans, a fan placed strategically so that the air passes over a large bowl of ice might help a bit.

Im not sure what you do exactly but can you do some work from home or even a a cafe near work for a couple of hours through the worst of the afternoon heat.

I worked through the sweltering heat of the summer of 1976. We were a public facing company so could not just shut down, we had to be there.

We had no aircon and the office was stifling. Our employers did everything they could with what they had. They applied whitewash to the wiindows to block out the worst of the sun......windowlene might work.

They supplied free squash and ice, they encouraged us to work early and then Just basically "man the phones" in the afternoon. They let us out in small batches to get some fresh air and shade in the neighbouring park.

They supplied us with free ice creams in the afternoon when the heat was fiercest. They relaxed dress codes so than the men could abandon their suits for more lightweight clothing.

There's a lot your boss could do to make life easier for you.
  • Well, outcome = I backed down . Leaving at 4pm tomorrow .
It means I will be able to jump on the Waterloo and city line ( underground ) for 1 stop to Waterloo .
I then get semi or fast train from Waterloo to twickenham .

If I were to leave at normal time ( 515 ) I would have to get the underground from monument to Richmond then a bus from there.
Loads of people around also at that time .
If underground doesn't work , I have to get 2 buses to Waterloo . Traffic is messed up because of ongoing roadworks .

My job is postal clerk messenger etc. I could deliver urgent documents to Blackfriars /. Banking/ pickup currency/ archiving /
    Pickup stationery etc.
I told my boss about the commute home be g the main reason for wishing tomorrow off .
Myself and my colleague were talking (just). I told him I would take redundancy if offered . He told me he can't quit for another 5 years because he has a mortgage . He is 67 in Jan .

Other news: my ideal buyer looked again on Friday .
Her buyer pulled out , or I would've had my first offer.
Waiting for the other lady , but expect nothing .

So your colleague will be 72 before he can retire?? Poor devil.

Working so long is great if it's what you want but not if you are forced to do it.

At least you won't be in that state AC once you get sold and moved. You will have choices.

The good times are on the horizon. You just need to hold on,you'll get there.

I've been trying to do some weeding but my back is not at all Hapoy. It's 30 mins work followed by 60 mins rest....:rotfl:
  • I was gonna say, don't forget the hot bath after weeding LL ,
    But it's hot anyway ;)
Yeah, the know all , narcissistic , bullying , manipulative creep can't retire just yet . Everything he says is right .
Looking forward to leaving that place as soon as I possibly can.

No more viewings booked . just got to relax and stay focused in this. Boiling weather

Another Casualty, been reading through your post with interest. With regards to your day off, surely it comes down to who booked the day off first. Reason is irrelevant. You don't have to justify why you are taking annual leave. Sorry to hear your boss is a creep. You might need to be the mouse that roared.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Thanks datlex:) Thanks also for reading the whole post .
Basically , I have tomorrow and Friday off as half days . I had yesterday off as half day also. It was just coincidence really, that both of us put in a request form in at the same time .

My colleague is a nasty back stabbing so and so .
He has a disab led wife whom he uses as an excuse for everything .
There is a touch of the savilles about him , where he puts his arm around various girls who need work help. He gloats at me when doing so . Very sickly , from someone old enough to be their granddad .

I have changed my shift for him about 98%of the time , because of his wife's appointments etc.
When I joined as a temp , him and another colleague ( now retired) never got on . He turned the whole vcompany against the other guy, who wasn't as bad as said.
He was trying to get me to 'tell him' , and stop me in different pars of the building to 'tell hm/ watch him' etc

He has done that to me also . Those people know I can see through them and I have no time for them . Hence the atmosphere .
Years ago (6) we nearly had a fight . He swore at me n reception area, and I called him outside for a fight . ( not like me at all btw, but I was under too much pressure ). He basically chickened out .

Since the Othet guy retired , only 2 of us in the office, I do my Olivier role , pretending to care about him and his wife .

Last year , my boss ( so wooden she was born in Sherwood Forest),
Snapped at me for not putting m g on my hospital appointment form.I held that for a few weeks as I was shocked, but exploded at her ( total control tho and not Jeremy Kyle style ), hence my final written warning suspended for 2 years. Just over a year to go. So, I was the lion that roared,)

Bizarrely enough, I could hardly speak for weeks as it was similar to me having a stroke . So managing to shout at the boss was pretty impressive :)
    Need to go ...
