Just back from dentist with a new money dilemma. Having spent over £600 on the cat's teeth, do I want to spend the same amount on mine? 18 months ago I had 2 back teeth removed ( both bottom right) after various infections, tooth breakages etc. Although no-one can see it, it does mean that I have to chew everything on the left side, and dentist advised that the top teeth above the gap are likely to loosen as they have nothing underneath. Dentist asked if I would consider a denture - £430 for an acrylic one with a big piece of plastic to anchor it, or £630 for a different sort with a thinner metal anchor. To be honest it does feel strange as also had wisdom tooth removed years ago so the gap is quite big. More thinking required.
AC - think advice from Payplan was sound. Well I would say that as I suggested you wait until purchase was complete (and furniture etc. bought) before considering settlement. Also think you ought to look into if you are entitled to any sort of benefits (again may be better after purchase). When you get a job you can always come off them and it might give you some leeway if employment is hard to find.
Also don't let the EA put you under too much pressure to get solicitor immediately. It seems to be their default position to be the harbingers of doom and gloom if everything isn't done yesterday, and they are only thinking of their commission.
Well I am battening down the hatches for the next few days as "the killer cold snap" hits. The other day I went out without a scarf and ended up with a headache from the cold so was wrapped up like a mummy today.0 -
Dreaming I so sympathise - I am also going through a long haul with my dentist - had two teeth out a couple of weeks ago - another one to come out then a partial denture to be fitted. It is the same as you in that it's all to correct my bite. Didn't really know what to do but have decided to go ahead with the dental work - dentist said it would give me another 15 years or so when I shouldn't need anything done. Apart from the pain, it's also the cost - mine will be around £1500 Yikes it's a lot to spend on teeth and like you they are all at the back, but it is to protect the front teethDebt free and Keeping on Track0

Oh dear Mrs P. The teeth I had out caused me so much pain at the time that I would have ripped my face off to stop it. Now they are gone they seem to be causing just as much trouble! According to the dentist I have a "peculiar bite" as my teeth only meet at one point, and I have to twist my jaw a bit to do that. I also have a small mouth which doesn't open very wide (although some may disagree with that statement:rotfl:) so treatment is always a bit of an ordeal.
AC - another reason to consider claiming benefits as I think you said you might need treatment and it might be beneficial cost-wise.0 -
Roll on stem cells so we can just regrow new teeth when ours give up the ghost:rotfl:
Re EAs "pushing".
The sad fact is 1 in 3 sales fail to reach completion.
So the quicker you can wrap it all up and get it through to exchange the better. The more delays, the more likely the sale will default. That is why EAs keep cracking the whip to get and keep things moving or at least it's what they should be doing if they are doing their job properly.
The property will sell itself, its progressng the sale that counts, its the most important part of the job. Any EA worth their salt knows this and they won't even factor the commission into their pay packet calculations until they know that contracts are safely exchanged.
It would be a very foolish and/or inexperienced EA who counted their chickens before they were hatched.0 -

Hi AC, it's the time of year for sickness I think. Being cooped up with other people in over-heated offices means the bugs just go round and round. Dull grey days don't lift the spirits much either but never mind - soon be spring.
I have been a non-sleeper since I was a child, and even when I was a teenager I didn't sleep for long periods - just at odd hours. It is something I have made efforts with though as otherwise I get out of synch. with the rest of the world. It is a matter of will though to go to bed at a "reasonable" time and get up at roughly the same time each day. I also rarely sleep in the day as that completely screws the rhythm out. It is harder when you don't have reasons to get up (like work/appointments etc.) but it just takes a bit of effort.
Effort is something I need to make re diet. I have only lost about 4lb since Xmas which is 7 weeks ago. I worry so much about eldest's problems that I sometimes forget to sort my own out but I feel so tired and ache-y at the moment that I really need to get to grips with myself.0 -

Don't be too hard on yourself dreaming . You're focused/ conscious on what you want to do. Life gets in the way for all of us , meaning as much as we have good intentions they are put back now and then.
You'll get there eventually0 -
So, I had a nice walk down to penn hill . Didn't realise how close it is , to where I currently am. Had a coffee there, for a change.
I've realised that I've cut down on the visits to coffee shops in general.
I made that into a nice long walk .
Got a call from the hospital regarding my may appointment . I sent email to ask for an afternoon appointment . Got call back today, telling me mornings only . So I've gone for 11.20 am -4th July . It gives me time to get my act together I guess. Tram journey expensive , so have to get ticket in advance .
Looking back fitness wise: I had intentions of yoga, but life has put that back again . Then viewings got in the way of my proposed visit to join a gym in branksome . Seems to be the nearest to me regarding the suitable equipment for my condition. Then again, I'm thinking that I could just do with resistance bands. That would probably be best and cheapest option .
That unexpected walk today, has made me want to start daily walking again. I was doing okay on that score , but the rain has put a damper on things.0 -
Well done on cutting down coffee shop visits. Those are moneypits. Why not allow yourself one treat a week or every couple of weeks depending on your budget?
Walking is the cheapest option for exercise. Isn't there a park at Branksome?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
