  • Sorry to hear about the car, dreaming . It is January so stuff happens.
It's the flat opposite . Let's just say, if I could buy the one I'm in then I would've fell on my feet imho . My experience here hasn't really been bad.
I would like to take a look tho . I don't know if I'm being too cheeky with a bid of say,£180k . One or two on here are advertised at £235. K
    We'll see

Well, if you really, really like it then do the sums (service charges, utilities etc.) for the next few years (bearing in mind that council tax etc. is set to rocket this year in some areas as well as other prices), and see if it is affordable. Add in a good contingency (I tend to use an increase of 10-15% per year) and do at least 5-7 years. You still have to think very carefully about cash (as we all do).. Remember, what you currently have in bank may have to last you a while if employment isn't so easy to come by.

Personally I wouldn't rush into making offers if it is only coming onto market now, and still look around. Don't know why but it doesn't sit right with me (not that it is anything to do with me really). Does the landlady currently own it? Can't help thinking she sees you as a bit of an easy touch - especially if you have told her you have loadsamoney. Please whatever you do, think, think, think, then think again.

A 2 bed flat in Poole for £235k sounds a lot AC. The ones in Westbourne look much more within your budget especially as you not sure when you will get back to work.

It may take a while to sort out your purchase so hope you living within your budget.

My DD is buying a flat in Bristol and it has taken a staggering 4 months to get to the point of exchange hopefully next week. This is with a small chain, the 2 bed flat she is buying in Bristol has been empty since November (it was rented) and her buyer for her house is a cash buyer (for investment purposes). She is the only one actually having to move as both her buyer and seller are investors and yet still it has taken 4 months to get to this point with hopefully completion first week of February. She has been renting a room from a friend for the last three months as she now works in Bristol and her house is in the Midlands. Hold ups are totally down to slow solicitors so choose wisely. House buying and selling is such a faff.

It's nothing to do with me either, but I agree with dreaming that something just doesn't feel right.

    AC, you are kidding right!!!!

To even contemplate spending anywhere near £200k on that flat in your situation has to be madness, sorry but the whole Landlady knows this, that and the other thing stinks - she and/or her friends will take you for the proverbial ride if you continue.

The landlady is not your friend nor is she doing you any favour, in fact she has already taken advantage with all that has been going on in your flat. Please think again.

AC you know dreaming, wendym, harz and everybody are right, don't you? Why are you so averse to making a little, tiny bit of effort on your own behalf? No-one in your position needs to offer on a flat the moment it comes on to the market and, given your landlady's form, I would not dream of buying anything involving her, she is a typical BTL LL; taking the pee is her default setting. She is just out for an easy life and sees you as an easy mark. Seriously, dude, wise up!

Sorry to be blunt but this is just getting stupid. The market should be your oyster, especially if you just lift your eyes a little further than the dozen streets you already know. You should be the one taking the pee, not the vendor.

Done, now. If you ban me from your thread, so be it.

Lol, where would AC be now if it wasn't for you lot.. the level headed, looking on from a distance, critical friends.

The LL's suggested you buy the flat but she's buying the freehold? That's a big enough red flag surely AC, if the freehold is up for grabs why on earth wouldn't you buy it at the same time as the flat? I would feign total disinterest followed by visible dissapointment if you view it and see what happens from there. :D

    Well said triple choc:)
I'm gonna say my budget is £180- 200k and see what happens .
Wouldn't have done this, if it wasn't for everyone here :)
  • Just say budget is up to £180k dont give them a top figure otherwise they will start at that rather than the bottom

Or don't offer a figure at all. I have a feeling that anything you mention might miraculously be the exact figure she was thinking of.
