  • AC Take it easy then today, don't over do it.

Today I shall be wrapping Christmas presents and have a tidy round.

RE decluttering.....it can be tricky to get right. I have disposed of some things and then regretted it later.....it's easy to get carried away in the moment.:rotfl:

I still need to purge stuff. I'm getting a bit fed up with feeling a bit hemmed in with "stuff" but I have decided to hang fire for now. - a lot of it is stuff like books, paintings, objects d'art - collected by my husband. Some of it was picked up on our travels so they do hold a lot of fond memories.

So I have decided I will wait till I have moved and then I can go through it all slowly and deliberately and not make any mistakes or rash decisions I might regret later.

Nice sunny day here - good to see some sun, even if it's a bit pale and wintery and lacking heat.

Hope you have had something to eat AC, and are feeling a bit better. I think it is good to take things slowly when you are starting off trying to get fit. Especially with all the other stuff as well. Good that you are starting to look for your next property too - gives you a feel for what's on the market, the areas etc., and you get to know the estate agents, and they you - very useful IMO.
Beautiful day here today - sunny and very mild. Eyes and nose have recovered from the dust assault the other day, and cat has forgiven me and is back snoring on the bed.
I am a real minimalist and all of my family are under strict instructions (on pain of being disinherited) NOT to buy me ornaments. I can't say I have ever missed anything I have de-cluttered (except maybe my purple pvc raincoat from 1970 :(). I do appreciate it when people think of me, and I understand that "ladies" of a certain age are difficult to buy for, but please, please, please - no more mugs with amusing/witty/pithy comments on. I would rather have a box of tea to put in the mugs I already have, or some biscuits for dunking. (hashtag - ungrateful sod am I.:rotfl:You can tell I don't "tweet" ).

I agree......no more ornaments, witty mugs, holiday souvenirs. No more stuff.......unless it's tiny and shiny.:rotfl:

Oddly enough it's clothes that I regret chucking away......all those biba and Ossie Clarkes.....Ouch!! They are worth a small fortune now.

And my "Titanic" dress. Like The one Rose wore when she was going to chuck herself over the railings.:rotfl:

    I loved that dress.....:o

Just cooked something now. A bit late, but I feel very tired and lazy.
While looking on my iPad , I was almost dozing off. I wanted to, but this 2 seater granny sofa thing is not fit for purpose in that aspect .
( not made for huge polar bears )
I think it underlines the fact, I'm not ready for work.

I suppose, I need to slow down . Until a few days ago, I felt I was a talking machine . I come out with the same spiel, about what I intend to do within 6 months blah, blah, blah.
It seems that, I'm trying too hard to stick to the 'plan', than just relaxing and let whatever happens happen,
I'm so used to getting things done etc, and should just relax worrying.
When it comes to Easter and nothing has changed, then I guess it's back to a degree of worrying .

I've had 2 calls from estate agents in twickenham . Hamptons are an agency I allegedly signed up for in parkstone . The Kingston office called.
Then I had Dexters calling me from twickenham .
Yesterday, I had Elliot calling from meridian ( like having teeth pulled out ).
Looks like all estate agents are tidying things up for themselves for xmas.

I'm not miserable today . Just a bit below par. Should be fine later:)

Vintage dress shops, maybe, LL? What I miss most is having so much space I never had to de-clutter, though I am fairly minimalist by nature. OH is the hoarder but few things he hoards are not useful. Who keeps cut off bits of kitchen work top? Yep. When we moved here, there was not an inch of worktop in the kitchen. OH rules.

You take it easy, AC, and please eat if you have not already done so. I, too, am glad you are viewing properties as you never know when you might find the one that does grab you. Dreaming, you made some more excellent points about getting to know the local EAs. Glad your dust episode is done and dusted now, and that the cat has realised normal service has been resumed. :)

ETA: Sorry, AC, must have crossed posts with your last. Glad you are cooking!

Glad I helped raise a smile. I had to laugh at a conversation I was part of last night in the pub. Several of us "ladies" were talking about Christmas food, and shopping for it, etc., etc. One lady said she was glad Christmas was at the weekend this year - she thought it made it much easier (not sure of her reasoning as we are all retired) and wished that Christmas could be fixed for the last weekend in December. I questioned how that would work for New Year - it could mean that Christmas and New Year fell together. Well, she said confidently, they could always fix New Year for a week or even two weeks later. I'm not convinced she knew why there was a moment of stunned silence then gales of laughter. It may just have been the alcohol I suppose.:rotfl:

Good that you have eaten now, and that you have recognised that you don't have to rush everything, but appreciate that the last few weeks must have felt a bit like a treadmill. That probably sounds as if I am contradicting my usual line of "make a list/plan everything" but my lists are fairly loose time-wise. Why not alternate a day at the gym with a day of getting things done? And there's nothing wrong with a daytime nap - just ask Alfie the cat who only really wakes up when the fridge door is opened.

I'm all for day time naps, and evening naps, whenever I feel like it naps. I agree though a full length three seater sofa is an absolute must for a decent nap.

Then of course theres nothing nicer that tucking up In a nice big proper cosy bed and getting a full nights sleep.

In fact what I would really like is to curl up into a little ball on New Years Night and then wake up about mid April.

Think how fab that would be......we could feast and drink and be merry and then wake up in the spring all slim and svelte. No diets required. . :D

WHen I become World President I shall make it so. :rotfl:

AC. You have been working for decades and have lived your life being ruled by the clock. Now all of a sudden all that is gone. You are still in "hamster on the wheel mode". It will take time for your body to adjust and probably even longer for your mind to adapt.

I think the idea of alternate gym days and getting stuff done or going out for a walk days are a great idea.

    Relax, there's nothing spoiling.

You have done all the urgent stuff, time to recharge your batteries.

Smodlet, I really miss the space of our old family house, well I miss our home and our life but that's another story.

We had oodles of space and masses of storage - wall to wall floor to ceiling wardrobes, fitted bookcases and cupboards, a fully boarded loft and a garage. Yep ....all loaded to the gunnels.

Your OH is right though, if you keep a thing long enough you will find a use for it. You can repurpose just about anything.

My sisters husband has just made a firepit for the garden out of a washing machine drum. I just love that kind of thing. Their garage is like an aladdins cave of treasures just waiting to be in earthed and repurposed. There's a fireplace in there I have my eye on. :rotfl:

I have some old metal filing cabinets which I'm going to upcycle into large garden planters. Have you seen the price of posh garden planters.:rotfl: You can achieve the same swankiness for the price of a tin of Hammerite.

Trouble is you need to store stuff until you have occasion to use it. And most UK properties are actually very small with very little storage.

I really hate parting with potentially useful stuff, and with treasures which hold a lot of memories but that's the price of having to downsize.

    Maybe I should upsize again......:rotfl:

Seriously i have been looking at two bed bungalows and townhouses
And I realise they won't do so i think I'm going to have to up my budget and change my game plan.

I think the worst is when you do declutter, then wish you had not so much you end up buying the same stuff again, albeit on CD instead of vinyl... I will not tell you what as I do not wish my rep as a rock chick to be tarnished, but it was the entire collection of a certain Swedish pop group's albums... :o:p::D

The only thing I regretted was a 4'6 artificial Christmas tree that was around 25 years old but still in excellent condition. When I was moving to Spain I thought we'd be in our apartment permanently and we had no room for it. I offered it for free on local sites but no takers and it ended up at landfill :(. Hopefully it got rescued as I left it beside the container rather than in it. Now we've moved to a house I've had to buy a new one (€25 second hand rather than the €180 one I liked :eek::eek:). It's not as nice as what I had, but actually it's the sentimental baubles, which I kept, which mean the most :).

AC hope you feel more rested tomorrow. You are closer to the continent now so siestas are in order and highly recommended :D.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
