    Smodlet,
Have you tried Streetlife.com for the Twickenham area? No guarantees, of course, but local people, with local knowledge and all that!

Thank you, thegreenone. I have not suggested this as I had never heard of it; just googled it... You may have a very good point for my friend and I will pass this on but I belong to a generation who, when we wish to speak to our neighbours, actually do so, in person, not from a computer.

I mean no disrespect or ungraciousness at all, thegreenone; I know your intention was only to help but am appalled that we, as a society have come to this though I can see how it might be useful in large cities or certain circumstances. Thank you for your assistance. What a world we live in! That I should need to go on the internet to ask to borrow a few carrots! Cannot get my poor, little, aged brain around it :0)

This I actually did, at the end of last week (from the wonderful neighbours, obviously, not from the chavs from hell) I employed the method of getting off my butt, leaving my house and trekking the unbelievably long ten or twelve paces to their front door, knocking upon it and asking. I returned that which I had borrowed last night, with 100% interest; borrowed three large, returned six large. My lovely neighbour pointed out she had lent only three; I insisted she take the extra as she really helped us out, saved us a trip to the supermarket. That is what real neighbours do. Taking in deliveries is entry level. I have a parcel for those same neighbours sitting in my hall right now. It is standard practice for any delivery firm, including Royal Mail, to attempt delivery to an alternative address if they cannot deliver to the consignee; it is in their T's and C's and on their websites. It is just a pity AC does not (yet?) have the kind of neighbours who do that for each other.

Thanks again, thegreenone, for the info and I will be sure to mention it to my friend. Cheers, darlin'!
  • Okay , people are mentioning discount vouchers etc, for purchases like John Lewis etc. To save me going back loads of pages, what are their names/ websites etc. ? I honestly haven't a clue .

I'm gonna view a top floor flat tomorrow , and have enquiry about another one . One is share of freehold, the other I'm just curious about because it looks nice from the outside , and has a bus stop outside it too.
Two different ends of parkstone . We'll see :)

Hey, AC. The only one I know about is TopCashBack. So far, so no purchases as the few things we really need seem difficult to find on there; I have heard of Quidco, too but know nothing about it.

That's all I got, HTH and good luck with the viewings tomorrow. You are not letting the grass grow; I respect that.

Waiting on your news, baby.

TopCashBack and Quidco are the two main cashback sites - you log on there before clicking through to your chosen website, and you will earn cashback on purchases providing the transaction tracks properly.

There are also voucher sites - there are some posted on MSE - but I tend just to search for the store that I want with the words 'discount' and it brings up codes quite easily if there are any available.

HUKD is another good website for finding bargains and discount codes.

How about signing up to the Free Post Code Lottery, if you have not already? So far, I've found it about as much use as any other lottery but who knows?
  • Thanks folks. Smodlet, my neighbour opposite , is really nice and she gave me the Amazon delivery on Monday . I think it was signed by her husband.
It was just me over worrying :)

Had 2 people calling from the same estate agent ( Bournemouth based).
Both trying to sell a place in Bournemouth before it's advertised .
The man sounds slimey tho' :)

The postcode lottery, is on my mind. Need to tidy a few things up .:)

AC. You are a "perfect" buyer....no dependent sale and no mortgage required. Of course EAS are giving you "first dibs" on new properties.
The EAs will have you on speed dial. :rotfl:

Smodlet........Neighbours.....all of ours are fab......they take in parcels, one gave me a raincoat last week. I need another coat like a I need a hole in the head but I accepted graciously. The other side give us cake!!! :D

No chavs here......just solid salt of the earth decent folk. Even the students are well mannered and considerate.:rotfl:

Horrid wet day here. Shoulder giving me gyp.

    Good luck with the viewings.
  • Thanks LL :) your shoulder pain should go, sooner rather than later if you are doing yoga and stretching . Probably a lot of tension build up which you may need additional help from an instructor perhaps .

Things seem to be gearing along nicely , regarding home comforts.
Broadband is really good so far. I did buy a Bluetooth speaker , a couple of weeks ago . Believe it or not, it has proved an essential and valuable purchase. For example , I watched a live stream of a jean Michael jarre gig last night, complete with 360 degree angle on my iPad . Until you tube got stroppy and ceased showing it for an hour.
Plus , the CDs I treated myself for my birthday were purchase from Amazon. My CD player is in storage, but Amazon download the tracks to their player som I have a few albums on there for previous purchases plus my new ones. Canadian rock station sounds good also .
So far, no complaints from neighbours :)

Btw: when I moved( painful), I threw away many many things. I was a hoarder many moons ago, but listened to a lot of folk who chucked stuff that hasn't been touched for 5 years or more. I accidentally chucked a couple of rare books . However, I managed to get a book by Jean michel jarre , for less than £6 inc postage .it goes for lots more than that , so a good move . Looking on fleabay etc, to see if I can hunt down similar replacements :)
  • Good morning all:)
Viewed property, and got lost along the way . I was about 10 mins or so,and Lloyd lemon of greys was a nice patient guy .
Had a long walk, and don't feel great today so I won't be going to the gym.
I think the long walk , on an empty stomach bar the steroids is enough for today. For a too floor flat , the location is good . Windows in the living room good . Not a bad size, but it never grabbed me .
I have time to look,so no harm done :)
