Timing is everything! Now, no mention of Cafe Nero or diets for at least a month ;)

Glad things went well AC. On the home straight now!

Well just about a week before the diet talk really started in earnest!

I think everyone in here knows that the only way anybody will ever lose weight (and I'm including myself in this) is when the person concerned has the self motivation and inclination to do it. I know when I have encouraged loved ones to lose weight in the past, the opposite has happened. AC knows eating pastries isn't good for his health. He knows his diet is shocking. He knows he needs to do something about it. I'm not sure being told daily by other people will do anything other than bring out the rebel and self sabotage tendencies we all have. Maybe im wrong and AC wants to be reminded constantly that he isn't eating well - but have you asked him how best you can support him in his quest?

I don't know if you stress eat AC or comfort eat but it's been a week since the biggest and bravest move I've seen on these threads. One step at a time. Literally. If talking a 20 min walk a day starts you on the path that we all know you want to take - fabulous. Focus on that. If the first step is finding a gym you feel happy to try out, do that. Any small step towards your goal is positive - you've more than demonstrated that you can achieve anything you put your mind to - but you will do it in your own way. Best of luck AC

    Copperjar.

I think AC is a brave and courageous soul and I admire him greatly.

He knows that my bark is worse than my bite but he also knows that I won't let up on him. He knows if I think he is starting to backslide then I will be on his case. He knows he can tell me to sling my hook any time he feels like it. I won't be offended.

I have over 30 years experience in helping people move house. I have seen all sorts. I have had people sobbing in my office. I have thrown people out of my office:rotfl:

I have sold properties in the U.K. and in Spain.....there is nothing that shocks or surprises me about how people react or behave, the hoops they have to jump through, the obstacles that need to be overcome,

I also nursed my husband for 9 years so have a bit of an understanding of life limiting conditions.

I kept my husband mobile for an extra year by feeding him a super healthy diet and helping him exercise daily. Even his consultant was stunned by how we held his illness at bay for so long.

I don't know everything but I know this........nothing comes easy in this life. If you want it you have to work for it, whether that's a dream house or a dream body.

AC. The simple truth is - if you want to get healthy then stop eating crap. But you know that.

    Garbage in, garbage out. :rotfl:

As for my poor dad........I don't know if anyone can do much. He's not at deaths door but he's truly not well. I think his poor body is just giving out, he's old and very tired. He's outlived his wife and most of his siblings. He's miserable and scared.

He has been expressing a wish to go to mass but has not been well enough. He hasn't darkened a church door for over 40 years.......but if he wants the comfort of religion then I'll fix it for him. I mentioned it to the hospital this afternoon and they said they will get a priest to call by.

Not much else I can do.

I feel for you LL. My Dad moved into sheltered housing in august and has gone downhill from there on - riddled with cancer and nothing they can do for him. It's horrible seeing them fade away before your very eyes and nothing you can do.

I'm pretty sure they can find religious practitioners of most faiths at quite short notice, when necessary, LL. 90 is a freaking good innings and denied to many.

Whatever happens, we will be here, won't we, guys?

I am sorry for your situation, Mrs P.
  • LL - I hear you. Like you say, AC knows what he has to do. He now needs to find the self motivation to do it.

  • Sounds like you getting around the area AC and as you are on holiday as such I think a few coffees and croissants won't break the bank, or the diet. Once you are settled next week in your rental flat and have found a gym and got a routine of sorts you will find all sorts of things to keep you from getting bored.

If you have moved to a new place it takes time to build friendships so in a way I understand why you are going out to coffee shops to be among people. To be honest though I think that would make me feel more lonely being that a lot of people in there are couples or groups of friends. Checking mr google there is a pub in parkstone Mr Kyps which hosts a lot of live bands so that sounds up your street. Maybe try an exercise class, health permitting.

  • So much going on today .
LL, hope things are not too uncomfortable for yourself or your family .
Never a good situation to be in .

Copperjar, you seem to understand me a lot.
Enthusiastic , your last post explains what I've been trying to say all day.
LL you are definitely a lady of so many talents .You seem to multitask so well, and have to be admired . Yes my bum's sore:)
I don't think I would've done any of this without everyone's input on here.
Copperjar, thanks for the praise. I'm sure there are far braver folk on these threads .
Wendy , for example is very courageous and realistic .
Hope your pain disappears eventually :)

Can't believe it was a week ago when I moved into this posh flat on the quay.
If the weather was spring or summer like , I would've been more adventurous in Poole. Visiting pubs etc.
On my own ? I'm not ready yet.
Enthusiastic, mr Kyps is a couple of minutes from where my friend lives.
Very near the blue shutters b&b where I've been in the past. Very good b&b

Will, checkout mr.kyos in the spring, or if a good band is on .
It's a fair walk from where I will be staying.

Tomorrow, I will probably go to penn hill, and Ashley road .
That should more or less cover all the immediate places I should go to .

    Sorry to hear Mrs.p
It's a little over a year since my mum passed away.
I/ we seem to have kept it together since. ( don't know if that's the way to put it ). The things like phone calls are sad.
We all realise from time to time, we can't phone her anymore.
I've said enough for now, but hope things improve

Thank you so much for your kind words AC. You are the brave one. When you were battling the tube I was just arguing with the belt on my dressing gown. And here you are living at the seaside! Having grown up on the Isle of Man I miss the sea every day.

I think the dental work must have affected my brain. I am in bed trying to find something on TV, and have actually watched ten minutes of Midsomer Murders.

Apologies of course to anyone who loves it.
