  • Time for some serious "h y g g e ". Puter says no to proper word spacing.

It's horrible here. Cold wet and miserable.

I feel like running off to Bali. :rotfl:

Instead I have to make do with cranking up the boiler and snuggling under (fake) fur throws. I'm going to give in and light the fire tonight........

Anyhoo...... AC had a quick look for hotels in Poole. Looks like plenty of choice, reasonable rates. I Don't think you'll have any problems.

One of my old employers offered me a job. I'm mulling it over. I wouldn't mind summers only but winters on building sites aren't much fun. The "office" is usually a converted garage which is bad enough, but then visitors on site usually leave the doors open so you get an artic blast.

I'll see if I can wangle it for summers only to just provide holiday cover now and again otherwise I think I will graciously decline.

Working would so cramp my style, dahhhhlings. :rotfl:

Yeah, part time in the summer would be best for you LL :)
Hopefully , I can be like yourself and have a similar situation 😺

AC. I am very lucky in that I am now in a position to pick and chose when and if I want to work. I realise how fortunate I am. (Although of course this wasn't always the case). ;)

The good news is with a bit of careful planning you too will be in this happy position.

My advice on that score is, once all the debts are cleared and the dust has settled you can then buy a property outright with enough left over to secure your long term future.

Then it's down to simple living ..........

Now that might sound very boring but it doesn't have to be. I live simply but well. Yes it takes a bit of forethought and planning but if you are creative in your thinking and can be a bit hands on so not having to rely on other people to do stuff for you then you can live very well on surprising little.

I think when you are working full time it is easy for money to slip through your fingers, working actually costs money. If you have time, imagination and a few practical skills then money doesnt seem to vanish quite so quickly.

I definitley have champagne tastes. However, despite having a lemonade budget I enjoy a good lifestyle - holidays, outings, I can run a car, buy nice clothes and still add to the savings pot.

I can apprecuate that money will be very much on your mind right now but as long as you stick to a budget and stay out of debt you will be fine.

At the risk of nagging....that daily Cafe Nero habit needs breaking, pronto. Its the daily dribs amd drabs that add up. Over a year it adds up to a nice foreign holiday.

Same with the food budget. Use the time whilst you are off work to learn how to become an ace cook. It will save you a small fortune and will be much better for you than a diet of Mars bars, fizzy drinks and convenience foods.

    Here endeth the lesson.......:rotfl:

AC, have you spoken to your friends in Poole about getting your mail redirected to one of them for a couple of months?

You need to get this arranged at least a week, preferably 10 days before you complete, cause otherwise you'll have all sorts of important financial stuff ending up in London when your down south - don't rely on your buyer forwarding mail on either.
  • Where do I start ...:)
Harz, yes funnily enough I spoke to my friend yesterday.
He will take it. I've just got to go online Royal Mail , and get it redirected for six months. Will do that later. Thanks

LL ..you actually hit on something , when you said working can cost you money. The cafe Nero habit . Let me explain:
I work in a building site, called the city of London.
The'office ' I work in , is not suitable to eat in there. Unless you want your colleague burping and farting randomly. Did I mention coughing?
    Oh, and the interruptions..:)
So, add that to total tedium and you see why I go to cafe Nero once or twice daily.
    Boredom is expensive also.

As I say, I'm gonna be having porridge and honey for breakfast again, reducing food portion sizes etc. I'm just waiting for my move into rental.:)

Btw being on my own, initially I will obviously checkout the coffee shops cafes and pubs ,until I get settled. The Nero habit will be reduced in time.
Being on your own can be costly also imho.

You are right tho', and I'm still listening :)

    I forgive you......:rotfl:

Now lets get this straight. I'm not one of those take your flask, never spend anything, coffee shops are the work of the devil types.....I enjoy a Latte whilst people watching as much as the next person.

I just don't allow myself to get sidetracked into buying a muffin as well - although I do occasionally indulge in one of those delicious almond pastries. ;)

I'm just suggesting you look at that area of spending because it really can mount up and run away with you. There's no need to cut out completely, just cut down, but yes I take your point why you turned your local coffee shop into your office. It does make a certain sense.

Did I tell you about my £70 parking fine. Well today I did a very MSE thing, by paying it early they reduced it to £35.....so not quite so painful.........

Yes I do think working can cost money. No time to shop around for bargains, relying on easy convenience foods, guilt presents for the family, a cleaner, work lunches and snacks.

Also I was expected to look as if I had stepped off the cover of Vogue (yes whilst working on a building site, :rotfl:) so a small fortune on clothes, dry cleaning, grooming, haircuts and make up.

AC. A much lower cost Cafe Nero alternative would be a Wetherspoon pub, they sell perfectly good Lavazza filter coffee or Latte if you prefer, and do takeaway coffees as well. Just don't buy any cakes etc.
  • Thanks Harz . Believe it or not, this will probably be my last week doing this.Dont forget, job ends on Friday .
The following week maybe one or two days.
    That's it :)

That worries me, IMHO you should break that habit as soon as you leave work as you will have no further need of the coffee shop. The longer you leave it the harder it'll get and as LL says you'll soon start to fritter your money away with no income until you manage to find a job.
  • Good point harz .
My friend in Poole just sent me a link to ..purbeck heights.
( the same block LL found many moons ago).
It's on the 2nd floor , 1 floor lower than the top .
Anyway,it's going for £180k. Bearing in mind, they were going for ovef£220k if I remember correctly.
It has a tenant in there at the moment . But seems cheap
compared to what it was .
    Must be worth investigating ..
Having said that , Monday week will be the earliest I can get there.
