Good morning all.
Hi MT.
AC - see you have had another sleepless night. Poor you, you must be shattered. Hopefully not too long now.
Theres not really an awful lot you can do till exchange. I'm sure your buyers will be understanding and happy to allow you time to get organised.
If really pushed, then you could just shove everything in storage and stay in a hotel or B&B for a few nights. A lot will depend on your employers and whether they will insist on you working your full notice period.
But until exchange it's all bit academic.
At best you can do your research, ..... rentals, removal firms, house clearance or charities for larger unwanted items and yes you could maybe start packing up a few boxes and decluttering smaller unwanted stuff. However, realistically until exchange you can't really commit to anything.
I know it's maybe not ideal, but, if necessary, could you stay at your brothers for a few days.
He owes you that much. :rotfl:0 -
Thanks LL )
I feel all of the above , plus happy and bored .
How confusing is that ? I was gonna keep the Pilates machine,
But on reflection , if I'm gonna end up living in a first floor flat or maissonnette for example , I don't think it would work.
Is it worth phoning an animal charity shop (none in twickenham ) , to have that and my computer desk and one or two other things?
Other than that , there's nothing to do . No money to buy packing materials .
I'll just wait0 -
Packing materials........free boxes from local shops. Just ask, they are usually glad to be rid of them. Any free newspapers your way. ???
Pilates machine, it does seem such a shame to get rid of something that will be so useful in helping you regain your strength once you've given up work and have more time. Surely it would be a valuable piece of kit to help you in your fitness regime.
If you are going to have two bedrooms anyway.......you could have a mini gym/study. Pop a nice comfortable sofa bed in rather than a traditional bed and it could double up as a guest room.
Just an idea.
I'm looking for a property with additional space to turn into a mini gym, even if it's just a spare bedroom. I hate communal gyms and much prefer the convenience of having somewhere at home. Saves time and money.......well this is money saving site.;)
Probably more hygienic too......:rotfl:
Does it fold flat for storage.
Your call obviously but I would hang on for a while until you know how much space you will have.
I appreciate it's very difficult to work out in advance what to keep and what you can safely dispose of. I still have stuff at DS1s house. Luckily it's not in his way at the moment but I will have to tackle it at some point. TBH I did get rid of a few items which, with hindsight, could have been useful.
I have learned that you can take minimalism too far!!! :rotfl:
Right I'm off for a little outing in my new (to me) motor. Poop poop!!0 -
Well, drive safely, LL, we don't want any more prangs, do we? Poop, poop, indeed. Just remember where Mr. Toad ended up and then had to escape wearing black bombazine, disguised as a washer woman.
Hello, AC! :hello::hello:0 -
Hello smodlet / LL
I probably would have room in an upstairs flat for the Pilates machine.
TBH , I am worried about noise issues below . . The machine sliding up and down on their ceiling . Me puffing and panting , doesn't help things .
Apart from that , I'd keep it0 -
Oh, for considerate neighbours!0

AC. You can get special thick sponge type rubber mats to go under your machine. A bit like a yoga mat but much thicker, around 2 inches thick. Quite cushiony. It won't shift around and it will also muffle sound.
I got one from Costco and used to use it to stand on at the kitchen sink in the winter when I had a poorly foot. They cost around £15 and have all sorts of uses. People often use them to stand on in workshops instead of having to stand on cold hard concrete.
The cat now has it as a bed in the garden......He loves it:rotfl:0 -
Viva la cat
Looks like I'll keep it then . I will get a stand for it, if I can.
It is the 4 rope version , which the stands are harder to come by.
Thanks LL
Smodlet , hopefully you'll get the right ones one day.
Now, I have news. I am typing this in bed at 4.20pm.
Got email from my solicitor : buyers solicitors , are asking trivial rubbish questions about the parking space.( why is it not tar macced? Do you have to drive onto pavement to get to it ? Etc) They sent me pictures.
I told them where the parking space is , in the picture.
I also told them that I had a yellow bollard installed, as !!!!!!!!!!s kept using my space. That is a plus in my book.
They then asked questions about the location of the garages in the close.
Pretty irrelevant imho, as I have garden/ loft/ parking space but no garage
They wanted to know if I heard back from prop.mgt. co regarding fascia.
My solicitor replied, and wants me to answer the questions again, in a different colour by each question. Can't do that on an iPad .
Will try computer later.
He has received information from property mgt co. And has forwarded that to the buyers solicitors.
I assume, a compromise will be made on the fascia . I don't like the attitude of the buyers so,icitor , so will not offer anything at first.
I also told my solicitor, that the first/ 2 nd week of November is preferable.
Spoke to my brother about The electrician, who does jobs here and there for my brother ( and a couple of jobs for myself).
I asked if its worth asking him to do the removal for me for£500.
I may have to get a lorry depending on the load, and ask him to drive that.
Depends on how much stuff I have.
Now I am knackered. Worst I've been on a weekday for sometime
Hoping to have a dose for an hour0 -
I have just received, email from my solicitor:' I hope we're almost there'
Not long to go0 -
Fingers crossed - sounds like you're coming up to the final furlong now. Sounds like purchasers solicitor is just crossing a few "ts" -and dotting the last few "i's".
As long as you can come to an agreement over the fascias all should be well.
Re the parking space. Has this just come up at this late stage.
Is it from the buyers or is it just their solicitor nit picking.
If they want the parking space tarmacced that's their call and they need to pay for that. Presumably they saw the space before they made their offer so that they were aware it wasn't Tarmacced. When you say they are querying access over the pavement do you mean there isn't a dropped kerb. Again, if this is the case, then they should have noted this before now.
They can't backtrack now. It's not the same as having an "unforeseen" issue such as the fascia boards. An unmade up parking space and an absence of a dropped kerb are obvious, you don't need a survey to spot them........:rotfl:
Re making an offer about the boards. I agree just wait and see.0
