Thanks again folks !
Andy, you have basically summed it up
Now, gallyI looked at sales. Don't know why. Something just said do it.
When I saw the last estate agent yesterday, it just came out again,' have you got, blah blah blah..'
I won't buy and sell in a year. So many things in my head .
One of my friends mentioned Christchurch . Looks like lower park stone / Ashley cross is out. Bournemouth has been discussed with people over the last two days. I've been there to see a couple of name bands. Played paintball there many years ago. So, we'll see.
Hattie told me boscombe is rough. She loves Bournemouth . Realistically, Bournemouth and Westbourne are really all the one imho.could be wrong.
The quietness : thought about that. One thing I would imagine, is that I would not be in the one spot all the time.
For example , if I lived in Westbourne , I could jump on sa bus to Bournemouth ( maybe walk)./ jump on the bus to Poole etc, when the mood takes me , etc etc.
I'm obviously gonna be scared. Next week, I'll probably go for a day in Christchurch or Bournemouth or Westbourne. The following week and the week after that, I'll do the same . Hopefully by then , something good might happen .
In the middle of that, research and more research . Times like this , is when the Internet is great.
In central London ..poxy everything !:) wifi / text / email..0 -
Well, I haven't been on here for ten days, and it has taken me two hours to catch up on this thread.
(I had a fantastic very long weekend away, caught up with mum and friends, and apparently I am loooking so much better since my move)
I did enjoy some of the randoms who have popped in this week - judging by a couple of facebook groups I am on, last weekend was a time for internet oddities.
AC, a year ago I was where you are now - sort of. Two weeks from settling the sale of my flat, about to finish work, with nowhere to move to, and being very frightened and panicky at times. It's only natural. I am still very much of the opinion that renting first is the way forward. My OH has been sharing your progress and he has just pointed out that, with the proceeds of your sale you could just rent for ever more, moving every few months/years, and exploring. He does like his mad ideas, but it is food for thought. Realistically, you are in a strong position in what is looking to be increasingly a buyers market. Sell your flat, leave your job, have some peace and quiet, with no debts, and take the time to think about what you want - job, home, relationships.
And on the subject of relationships - there are pros and cons to being on your own versus being with someone. Now is definitely not the time to go looking for it, and usually it comes looking for you.
Finally, I have no idea where I saw this quote but it does seem quite appropriate -
'The only true measure of success is to be able to live your life in your own way'
So many songs in this post :-)0 -
AC, talking of buses, have you seen this gem of a route to access the coast down to Swanage from the Bournemouth area:

I've just looked at Christchurch - lovely, characterful properties for sale in your price range but very few comparable rents which is a bit strange. Internet research is all well and good for initial stuff but nothing beats on the ground exploring. However, it's September and all these places will be very different in February. Yet another reason for renting for at least six months. I've got it in my head that Christchurch is very quiet in winter - no idea where that came from though!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Christchurch has a newish very smart Waitrose. It did feel quiet when we visited.
The swish flat we stayed in was in Boscombe, which was a mixture of scruffy shops and half a million pound flats. Daughter was there a few weeks ago, and said there are a couple of new 'poncey' places to eat, with a handful of hipster types.0 -
Christchurch is nice or it was the last time I visited, well over 20 years ago. TBH i really don't think you can go massively wrong all along that coast - it's all good. The only thing I would wonder is how "Seasonal" it is and which bits more or less shut down for the winter.
I used to live by the seaside (in Scotland) and a lot of businesses did close for the winter. The actual first line shore street could look a bit bleak in the winter. The rest of the town was fine though, and I did quite like not having to battle my way through the throngs of summer visitors (grokkels).
Well this morning i am feeling very virtuous. I have resisted temptation. I have cancelled my test drive with the Mercedes. :rotfl:
If I drive it I will want it.....so I won't risk it.
I am going to stick with plan A and remain car free for the time being. At least whilst I live with DS2. I can share his car and save my pennies.
I will wait until I've finished my property buying spree. Delayed gratification and a little self discipline.
My reward will be all the sweeter for the wait. :rotfl:
Speaking of self discipline........the healthy eating plan and the exercise regime start in earnest today.

Thanks again folks .
Not looking for a relationship TBH . It's just that, at the present time it would be easier in my situation .
I feel increasingly unsettled on Saturday mornings . By that I mean my sleeping pattern / mg .
As I always get up at 5 am mon- fri and I have less wild Friday nights these days, I wake up really early . Obviously I try to lay in .
When I eventually do , I feel rough as hell when I need to get up.
2 big rugby matches at Twickenham today. Struggle to get out of bed to do the early shopping. Relaxed but tired now0 -
AC. unfortunately your body clock is probably "set" now and will never change, especially as you get older. I had years of rising at 6am, and still wake up at that time even after not going to bed until midnight to 1230.
Laying in never works, you are better off getting up when you wake and doing what needs to be done, then having a midday snooze on non work days (otherwise known as a power nap)!
Have a good day.0 -
Oh my .... I was going to lurk on this thread
(sorry!) as I really need to spend a little less time on research and a bit more on planning and doing ... but when someone is in almost exactly my position, I can't not join in. And LL is here :j:j:j **waves** and so is Gally **waves some more* :j:j:j
AC, I retired 8 days ago, age 61 and single, because my health *is* suffering - I've been coping with a very part time workload, from home, for more than 18 months now, and I wasn't very well before that either.
I'll only be moving if I get to "millionaire" status, otherwise I'll be staying where I am, though this place needs some upkeep. I'm not a million miles from you either - when I was well, I went to a couple of conventions in Bournemouth and got there and back in a day (Sussex).
As I recover, and start to do more, I'll be following along with your journey. ..... Just deleted a whole lot of woffle, I can't quite express it in the middle of the tumult of the past few months, but as I follow along, maybe it will all get clearer.
Here's to your new life (and I've been on that route 50 Purbeck Breezer, by the way, it's brilliant).
Subscribing.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
AC, when you come to do budgets for living in Poole/Bournemouth this site lists the bus pass prices and validity:
http://www.morebus.co.uk/page.shtml?pageid=1017
Obviously there is also Yellowbuses, but I think for your purposes morebus will be all you need.
As you can see their current maximum price for 4x90 day ABC zone tickets to cover everywhere you could wish to go, and probably more besides, works out at £848 in total for 5 days less than a whole year using the smartcard or App systems.
How does that compare with your present transport costs in London?0
