And of course as the animal gets older the premiums go up to try and drive you away from paying, as the possibility of a claim increases with age !
I agree with most of what you say, Procrastinater.
I've had cats for 40 years and never even considered insurance until we got this one. A lot of people I know have had massive vet bills for orthopaedic work done to their cats as a result of road accidents, well over £1000 a time. Being in a bad financial state I was very worried how I would find the necessary money if I needed it and until a couple of years ago the premiums were reasonable (no more than £100 a year).
They started going up round at the time I entered on a DMP where I have no access to credit whatsoever and all my savings had been used on paying debts. I was too scared then to cancel the policy:o. Even if I'd saved the equivalent amount of the premium in my bank account it would still only have been a tiny fraction needed for major surgery. I have a kamikaze cat, he puts himself in no end of danger climbing trees and jumping from roof to roof, not to mention charging across the road chasing rabbits or pheasants several times a day:eek:. A typical candidate for accident insurance if ever there was one:(.
Anyway, I've cancelled my policy now and will save around £180 a year in premiums but it won't be anywhere near enough if anything serious happens. Obviously I'll also try to save more whenever I can but it's not easy. I hope I don't come to regret my decision.
Incidentally, did you mean that you would have paid over £1750 in 5 years on your dog's policy if you'd had one? Or did you just mean that you've saved that amount? I thought my £180 was steep and it only got that expensive this past year.0 -

Well survey sites aren't like the free money lotto sites, are they. You're being paid for your participation.
Whoever commissions the survey will have spent £a on it for b participants, the participants get £c each and the survey peddlers pocket the rest.
Although prolific academic is studies rather than surveys (which is why you get paid more), but same concept.
ETA: and they want you to do it through their site rather than someone else's so they get more commission from the people who sent them the survey. They exist as middlemen between the market researchers and you.Aqua 0/1850 Cap.One 0/450 Vanquis 0/500 HSBC 0/100

Eeby's wierd - I relisted some items a good few times without any real signs of interest - then you come home and it's sold !
Not too bad if the listings are free - but the "listing fees" would anihilate any income else0 -

As for making the 1000 posts, Aesop, of course we will:beer:
That's annoying for you CBC - I'm abouty a mile and a half from ours - which means a quick sprint on the bike and a good few calories burnt - but diesel saved - which I count internally as a saving too !
1000 posts - we'll blister it ! :T0 -
