have you tried hoovering your fan on your laptop? put a sock or tight over the nozzle and very gently hoover the fan. it gets clogged up with dirt nand something as simple as that might fix it.
Thanks, Aesop:T. Have you tried the hoover and sock method yourself and did it work? Do you mean hoover through the grille or take the back off the machine and hoover the fan directly?
I went on YouTube first before I read your advice (where would I be without if for finding out how to fix all sorts of things:rotfl:) and several of the posters' videos suggested blowing not sucking. Apparently sucking can dislodge the fan! One chap suggested using the vacuum cleaner hose 'in reverse' to blow, but mine won't do that, it just sucks. Someone else suggested just giving a few good hard blows from your lungs and I did that a few times and it seems to have had a bit of success:j. I can feel air going in and out of the grilles so am a bit more optimistic. Will have another go soon. It's still getting fairly hot underneath but maybe it always did and I never noticed it before:o. Usually have laptop on a table, it's only when I had it actually on my lap that I felt the heat:eek:. The fan used to burst into life intermittently and was really noisy for a minute or two. It's very quiet now, never just bursts into full noisy mode.0 -

no, I just hoover the grilles with the back on my laptop. oops yes forgot, no sucking, blowing, :rotfl: mine doesn't reverse either, but if you are extremely careful you could use hoover in normal mode around fan. you can buy one of those air bottles for laptops that clean it by blowing the air around it. But being mse.... :money:
it will get hotter sitting on your lap, even though called a laptop, beause your body generates heat and you are trapping the heat by having it on your laptop. On a table it has space for the air to circulate and the heat to escape. You can pick up at some carboots, one of those laptop fans. you sit it under the laptop and plug in using a usb, and it rotates cool air under the laptop to keep it cool.
well done anyway! :money: need to award you a resourceful badge!0 -
I did the same at the weekend and managed to get some reasonable prices from Music Magpie and Ziffit, although Ziffit did have the best cashback options both with topcashback and Quidco so majority of the stuff went to them.
I also did quite well for prices with Zapper and WeBuyBooks last time I had a clear out.
Hope you computer holds up long enough to get another set of prices
Thanks for the advice, rylee:T
Never thought of the cashback sites for this:o:o:o. Thanks for the reminder.
Just been on Music Magpie and was very surprised that they were offering more than Ziffit on every single CD in the batch:eek:. Quite considerable in some cases (£3.20 as opposed to £2, £1.92 as opposed to £1.10) so overall it made a 40% increase in price. The cashback is marginally lower but not enough to make a difference so have completed the trade and the cashback appeared in my Top Cash Back account (pending of course) immediately. Now just need to parcel up and drop off at the nearest drop-off point:j
Doubt I'd have made any more profit than this on eBay after fees, packaging and a lot of faffing so I'm happy, especially as it will be more long-term clutter gone:j.. It's my first transaction so it's a bit of a dipping my toe in the water test. Will see how it all goes before I get too carried away and euphoric;)0 -

Thanks, Aesop:A. I love the challenge of fixing things, I don't think it's just because I'm skint, I've always been like it. Don't always succeed though but will have a good go at it. Technology though is a bit different, I'm very wary of dismantling things and fiddling about in the innards:o. That's why I asked if you removed the back of your laptop. One of the guys on YouTube took his off, it involved removing zillions of screws and various bits one by one:eek:. No thanks!
Yes a guy on YouTube did use a can of compressed air but like you said, being MSE and all that....;)
Will definitely look out for one of those fans if I see one going cheap. I'd never heard of them so thanks very much for the advice. I learn something worthwhile every time I come on this thread:j. It's brilliant.0 -

dmn chrome! or laptop! every time i post it does somethign stupid.
awesome. :money::j:beer: well done!
one thing i will say mm takes an age to payout and even on tcb. you will get your money but they take longer than others. but fantastic am sooooooooooo pleased they are paying more than the other sites.
yes, it's worth doing these sites instead of endless listing on ebay with music, genre, etc. and conditions, and then find it doesn't sell for ages.
British Gas engineer been, washing machine working again.
and got letter from bank, my bank charges are actually being refunded at £270:eek: not sure where the rest of my money is then!
time to do a cupboard stock up of the essentials like tinned stuff and what not. might even take a look at musclefoods for some meat. I did look at approvedfoods yesterday but they had nothing I wanted0 -
yes I got less in bank and letter only arrived today Carbootcrazy, but as I don't have internet banking, no phone app, lol waiting for all my logins to arrive, will have to call the bank to see if additional money gone in.
and you don't owe this insurance company anything! when they pay out you leave them! you do not owe them anything to stay!
is there a complaints procedure? there should be one. These days I am on my high horse and would say take it further! we are ripped off for so much these days it's not fair.0 -

Great news about washing machine being fixed. Must be a nightmare without one when you've a youngster to wash for.
Sorry, this thread moves so fast these days, I've forgotten what your initial bank charges refund was for. I thought it was less than the £270 you've mentioned, so does that mean they are paying you more than you originally expected? I hope so:beer:
Still battling with a pet insurance claim:(. Long story but wasn't expecting them to pay out. Had a letter from them drawing my attention to the terms and conditions of all the exemptions in my policy. My Vet said he felt there were extenuating circumstances, he knows of clients of his who have been paid for a similar treatment(although by a different insurer although the exemptions seemed to be the same). He's written to them again with further information so it's more waiting to see what happens now. Insurers:mad:
Actually, not sure I want them to pay (after all that) as after the excess and deductions for things they never include anyway I'll not get much back and I am wanting to cancel the policy anyway. The savings of over £15 a month in premiums will be more useful to me and if they do eventually decide to cough up and pay out on this claim I'll feel duty bound somehow to keep the policy going:o0 -
found a new free lottery
