Just been watching Nigel Slater on dish of the day know there is someone who should do this type of program as his program dish of the day he shows how to use up every last bit I love his recipes dose any one else like Nigel Slater ?
    Dee x

I enjoy watching Nigel Slater and his gentle way of explaining different recipes is so much more pleasant than the shouty, sweary one.
Watching this extremely clever man cook is just such a nice experience and as you say he does use up everything that he can.Plus he demystifies cooking and doesn't 'talk down' to his viewers
He also uses stuff we can all relate to not ingredients that are either unheard of or difficult to buy locally.I would love to go to supper with him .Of all the cooks on TV he is the most likeable one I find

Watching Nigel Slater is like putting on your favourite comfy cardi, warm and relaxing.

I love that he says recipes are just guidelines really.

I follow him on Twitter and he's spoken to me on a few occasions, seems like a really nice bloke.

Why would anyone pay attention to him?

    A) he sounds so thick (I suppose that's one thing HFW has over him)
    B) he is so ridiculously overweight that I cannot believe he applies any selectivity to what he eats....hence can he be an authority on food?

It takes all sorts but I cannot stand self-appointed "experts".

    You're out of date - he's lost 9 stone.

Fair enough. No amount of dieting will eradicate his foul mouth, though.

Nigella looks amazing. But she looked fine overweight too.

    Tom Kerridge & his diet:
    How much he lost: 9st
How he did it: By going 'teetotal' and cutting down carbs
What he says: "I took up swimming and watching my carb intake. I stopped eating carbs late, and have got into eating fruit: I love apples and grapes as a snack now. I've gone down the route where I eat plenty of protein and not any carbs. I just ignore the potato bit, basically."
You would really think a chef should know better than to eat carbs late and would know about the benefit of eating fruit before getting 9 stone overweight.

fruit is full of sugar, and it doesn't matter what time you eat - but what has this got to do with the title of the thread

Of course it matters what time you eat - stuffing your face with chips at midnight is going to be worse for your weight than a reasonable meal at 6pm.

And how many threads have you read that remain on topic?

Given the split shifts that chefs work, eating late is something of an occupational hazard.

Just because you know something in theory (I'm sure many of us are overweight but know all about dieting:(), doesn't mean that you put it into practice.

Many of us want to eat dinner at a grown up hour (not midnight) rather than at the time that children sit down for high tea.:D
