Well Irisheyes, mine is similar but the bread is soaked in water and I use LARD ( shock horror ) instead of butter. my recipie is curtesy of my old Granny who would be 105 if she were still with us.
Oh and I guess the bread weight depending whats at the bottom of the breadbin.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -

I was going to make one in the next couple of weeks, but I was wondering: if you cook it and put it in the fridge to keep.... how many days will it keep? Apart from the obvious ones of keeping it covered are there any other special tips for keeping it fresh?
There's only me - and I am very small - so concerned that I will make a huge pudding and never stand a chance of eating it all before it goes green.
P.S. I have no freezer. I have an ice-box, but even if I buy proper already frozen food from a shop it only has a life of 3 days in the ice-box (the boxes say)0 -

Hi,
I was sorting out my bread bin which was pretty empty! 2 brown rolls and 2 slices of bread.
I had a couple of handfuls of mixed fruit left in the cupboard, an egg,and some sugar and some mixed spice. All the ingredients were making me think breadpudding. But is it possible to make one fat free and without milk it.
I broke the rolls and bread into pieces, poured enough water over it so that it was soaked. Then threw in a couple handfuls of mixed fruit, 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tsp of mixed spice. Mixed it all together and then added an egg to hold it all together.
I put it into a lightly greased lasagne dish and then sprinkled a tiny amount of sugar on the top, and then cooked it until set.
Boiled the kettle and mixed up my less than 10p packet of custard.
I cut the bread pudding into 12 pieces, put half in the freezer and half dishes straight up for the family with cheap custard. Everyone loved it and was asking if they could have seconds!It's the start of the no takeaway challenge.0 -

I tend to use stale cake to make bread pudding - the last one I made was using up a load of carrot cake muffins I'd forgotten about and it was great. Hi,
I remember as a child my grandmother made two types of bread pudding the
bread and butter pudding custard type and also a bread pudding she made in a sq tin, that was much firmer it was a bit like cake she cut it into squares
it was darker than the bread and butter pudding and had a little sugar sprinkled on the top.
I also think I have seen it sold in cake shops many years ago.
Anyboby know what I mean? and does anybody have the recipe.
