They do tend to hammer early bookers for peak dates. I'm almost certain the price will eventually fall. It may of course temporary go up to frighten you to book. It's a really depressing feeling watching the price plummet a week or 2 after you have booked. Mind games.
  • Ryanair prices have gone high. I regularly travel to Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Menorca. Faro (Algarve) and have researched their prices over 7 years. They are the highest they have ever been for these destinations. Often booking as soon as the flights are released gets a good price but not now. Worse still is the new web site just doesn't work. I believe the price hike is due to the refugee crisis as many holiday destinations are no longer popular which puts pressure on similar destinations to the ones I mention.
  • It's possible to find bargains with Ryanair. I've just booked a flight for less than a tenner. But they can be very expensive too. Booking now for summer 2016 looks dear on many routes with Ryanair often outdone by the competition. There's a flight I want in March that is costly now. I'll wait until late January and hope it will have dropped in price by then. It's a merry dance all right.

I am unsure what to do because we like the Ryan early morning flight,I have now booked the villa and sitting playing poker waiting for Ryan price to drop
    Cheers

The way things are going, I can only see the prices going up
The Canaries is going to be one of the few short haul places for winter and out of season sun now that Egypt has got messy.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • I am currently looking at flights to Lanzarote in April 2016 and Ryanair are the cheapest for me out of them, Jet2 and Monarch by quite a way.

But Jet2 seem to be cheap at the moment from East Midlands though - makes me think it might be worth us flying from there instead of our normal Leeds or Manchester. Your flights including a hold bag each are less than £1k at the moment with Jet2 - nice daytime flights too.

If I was you I'd book them rather than gambling on the Ryanair flight coming down. You get more luggage allowance with Jet2 as well - for both hand and hold luggage.

Ryanair charge more than the other airlines for luggage. How many hold bags are you looking at - can you cut down your luggage at all? I would have thought 1 or 2 hold bags would be more than enough for the 3 of you unless you are taking more items than the normal beach holiday clothes.
  • Sorry, for some reason I thought it was 2 adults and 1 child travelling, but now I see its 4A, 2C.

You get the same hand luggage with Jet2 and Ryanair. - 10KG. Ryanair allow a 2nd small bag on top

In my experience too. Booked MAN/ACE back in July for next March for £120 return each (day flights) including 15KG hold luggage. Last month I booked LPL/RHO for next June for £160 return each (late flights), again including 15KG hold luggage. I'm very happy with those prices, and don't believe they'll drop later.

£20 each way is good enough for me! Think I paid £19 each way last year with easyJet (LPL/RHO). Who's currently cheaper than that?

Sorry, yes you get the same weight, but you can take a bigger suitcase with Jet2. I have a small suitcase that is too big for Ryanair hand luggage, but fine for Jet2, so I can fit a bit extra in and am more likely to get away with just hand luggage.

I usually find that a small case full of clothes, toiletries, kindle etc is less than 10 kg anyway and in my experience, Jet2 also allow a small handbag as well as the cabin case.

Ryanair are usually cheaper than Jet2, but we have a better choice of flights from our local airport for Jet2 and their flight times are usually better for us - Jet2 are more 'daytime' whereas Ryanair are often setting off in the very early morning so an early start, or are in the evening, so you get to your resort very late at night.

I don't mind paying a bit extra to not have to get up at stupid o'clock or trying to find a hotel in the dark at midnight.

I think it depends where and when you are going.
They charged us £70 each return for 20 kg recently (taking diving kit so needed a big case each). Monarch and Jet2 were £50/60. I usually holiday in May/June and September and it has always been at least £60 return for a case over the last couple of years at least. It's ages since I paid as little as £20 each way for a hold case.

We also sometimes take mountain bikes to Spain. Ryanair charge £120, whereas it's £50 with Monarch. Makes it hard to compare prices without adding up all the charges.
