Thanks! We've got enough unlocked phones to manage (hand-me-downs!)
Are the cards easy enough to get hold of over there? We're flying in late to miami for overnight hotel stop, getting to port everglades next day but not in our own car so limited a bit!

Pretty much any Mall there is an AT&T shop, so provided you can get to to one you should not have a problem.

just to mention that US payg sim cards, specifically t-mobile and AT&T roam only in Canada and Mexico. Puerto Rico and US Virgin Island are part of US native coverage. So it does not cost extra to use your phones there.

Better to unlock the phone before leaving the UK. Even though my Virgin UK sim worked in my T-mobile US locked phone.

Yes. You will have roaming charges if you use your UK sim. If you buy a US sim it will NOT work in there.

You mean I can't just buy a US payg sim when I arrive and expect it to work in my un-locked uk phone?

so I received my tuyo sim today, have put it in an unlocked phone (is a t mobile phone but hasn't asked me for any unlock codes as assume its good to go) and have activated the sim on their site and got a phone number (chose a NYC code). so far so good. but there is no reception on my phone. I just wanted to check that the Tuyo Sim doesn't work in the UK. If thats the case I'm fine - as long as it works when I get to the USA in a couple of weeks!! it could be that the activation is taking a while to filter though (although i can call my new USA number and get to voicemail).

Does anyone here in the UK have a Tuyo Sim? Can you confirm it doesn't work in the UK? Would put my mind at rest! Thanks x

It will NOT work there. The sim will only work in the US. You should be fine when you get off the plane in the US.

Help - I'm going to the US on Sunday and intended following previous advice on MSE - buying a phone and SIM card at somewhere like Walmart (or SIM only as we have an unlocked phone).

Tyuo now seems a better option but would I get the card in time if I order from their site? Or should I just stick with the original plan? Sons want to phone/txt girfriends at home in the UK whilst on holiday!

    All help and advice appreciated.

I do not think you have enough time to order Tuyo and get it in the UK. Unless you have someone in the US that can order it for you and you get it when you get here. My suggestion would be to just stick with your original plan.
