    Hello everyone,

Welcome to the ninth Grocery Challenge of 2007.

I'm sorry that I'm posting this a bit early but I'm off on holiday and I won't be here next week to begin the Grocery challenge on the 28th as usual, so I'm putting it up now.

I did think it was a bit early when I saw the thread!!

I'm not going to start my Sept challenge til the 1st (I get all confuddled else!:rotfl:) but I am going to drop another tenner and go for £60 this month. I want to pay off my credit card by xmas, so the less I spend on food, the more I can pay on card!

So £60 for September! :D So wish me luck, and good luck to all.

how can I get rid of the edit sign on my posts please.

    You can't!!

The button will say 'Thanks' on other peoples posts, but on your own it will say 'Edit'.

Simply cos you can't 'thank' yourself! And you may need to edit your post of any mistakes etc.

Right, here we go, count me in for September!

Sad person (me) has spent all afternoon trying to work out properly what September's food is going to cost!

I have a done a full inventory of both freezers, set out the month's meal plans, sketched out 4 weekly shopping lists and costed them all out on "mysupermarket"! ( Oh dear, I REALLY need to get a life!)

My DH is away for about 10 days mid-month, and he's the fruit-freak in our house (we get through at least 20 bananas a week here:eek:  , and I don't really like them) so my fruit bill, at least, will be a lot less!:j

I reckon this month I should only spend about £150 but, to give myself a bit of slack and allow for miscalculations, I'm going to budget £160.00.

As Donna (dlb) said last month, this is more about seeing what I am spending, rather than necessarily cutting down. I used to waste so much stuff and my grocery bills were SO inconsistent. This thread is really helping me to keep track of everything, thanks for the support everyone and wish me luck for this month!

Well as I missed my August target by about 6% I had better not cut back too much even though it is a 'normal' month of 4 weeks and fewer visitors. So, I will start with my first shop of the month on 30th August and finish the month on 27th September. My target is £280 for food, drink, cleaning and toiletries for me and OH. Wish me luck.

Well last month went to pot. Went on holiday and just couldn't keep track! Have signed up on the spending diary website so I'm hoping that will help. Going to set a budget of 280 for 2 adults and 2 children. month starts on 29th.
A friend came round with a huge box of cooking apples last night so I'm stewing and freezing like mad. Should help cut down what I have to spend on breakfasts and puddings!
  • We've just got back from hols (free in with the in-laws in a caravan near Clacton), filled in the spending s/sheet & checked the online b/stat & fallen off our chairs with the overdraft figure! Then I found this thread. I call that karma!

Normal grocery spending budget is £335 but I do include nappies, baby clothes, any emergency spending & present buying in this, & have a seperate ents budget & petrol. Is this what others do?

I'm up for a £300 spend as a gentle ease in but what do people count as grocery?

I will go from 1/9 as that's when the dd's kick in, & I had my Tesco vouchers today.

    Bring it on!!!
Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in infamy!!

Alona and all other newbies welcome,

To answer your questions Alona, I would seperate the present budget aswell personally but depends what works for you.

My grocery budget covers what I put above for all of us and animals inc food (all meals as DP works evenings and takes food, sons packed lunches etc) cleaning, toiletries, takeaways, food out

I have seperate for petrol, don't go 'out' so don't have an entertainment budget, gifts seperate etc

I posted on another thread about Tesco vouchers, if you don't use them for deals consider selling them on Ebay, get more than the voucher value back usually, search on completed listings on Ebay and you'll see.
One day I might be more organised...........

Well..I'm in again. Have failed miserably so far this year with this challenge, but am determined to do better!! Am hoping that the kids going back to school will be helpful!!!! Keep losing track of what I'm spending outside of my main weekly shop..so need to work on this!!

So..my month runs from 29/8 to 25/9 - a 4 week month (phew!!) and my budget is £400 - covers all packed lunches, food, nappies, formula, toiletries etc etc for 2 adults and 3 children (7, 4 & 10 months!) May seem a huge budget in comparison to many..but will still be a challenge for me, bearing in mind what I've spent the last few months!:o

My night out's budget was £10, I spent less than £6, and that was with an admission fee too. It's always cheaper when I drive. People don't mind buying me a drink. So, there's another £4 in my pms pot. The loose change went in my money boxes.

    EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.
