Teedy, how does that work then? Do you count all of that £20 as grocery shopping then or how do you balance it?
I dont take cash out with me, I use my debit card. I know how much I want to spend for month usually, this months dif cos I,m going away, and tally by receipts. Updating my sig also keeps me in line :o . I dont count in any mocs I may use, just what the final total is . Which is cheating a wee bit I suppose:cool: but hey thats me. One day I,ll be confident enough to start a PMC but not today.....or tomorrow. That fiver goes into the " how comes I,m skint again" file

The idea of this is to break down each expense and see where your overspending, if you lump it all together you wont find that out. So if you keep your grocery receipts for a month you,ll find out if this is your problem area, and can act accordingly to bring it down, if you find you cant manage on less in that area try looking at other expenditure. Do you have the best deals on any cc,s you may have? Are you going out on the town too often (lucky thing) Can you cut your home insurance? by that I mean the same cover for less, all these things have to be looked at seperately, but I bet mostly shopping is the culprit, or one that you could cut down without too much hassle. Good luck

  • I find all the Grocery challenge posts fascinating... its all new to me too but I kept coming acrcoss this site when searching for other stuff online so decided to join in the end :) I would have loved to join in the October grocery challenge but have a bit of a stumbling block - I have long promised my mum to hunt her down some Bath Chaps, a forgotten delicacy of her youth she's been craving ;) and have found online a farm shop that delivers - drawback is, minimum spend is 70 quid ! ( well I wouldn't be spending that ALL on Bath Chaps obviously :D but on various bits from the shop ) So that rather puts the kybosh on it... however I will continue to read and learn :P Thanks !

  • had ot go tesco ended up spending £26.54 mainly on milk is it me or has milk really gone up in price??

got lots of fresh fruit and veg and did good no non essential spends

did buy a load of foil trays to make a load of crumbles in as my apples and pear trees have had there first crop picked and loads to get the tray were very expensive i felt at £1.59 for 6 and i needed 2 packs but did need them before the fruit goes rotten and i lose it all.
    Still Trying :o

  • Ah, but think of what your lovely homemade crumbles will cost as compared to buying them readymade ! :D and that will take the sting out of the foil tray price :)

  • I have been thinking today, I might rise my first weekly budget to £100 and leave the rest at £80 that way I could buy the Kitten food and litter to last the month (although £20 won't cover it completely) without it eating into our food money.........
I would also get the rabbit food and hamster food, although the remaining hamster isn't looking great either so I don't think it will be long before he follows his brother......That said, I already have plans to replace with fish.

Do other people with pets budget weekly for their pet food or monthly? I'm just trying to get a feel for which works best.

Is it me or is anyone else having problems using MySupermarket.co.uk? I have found it incredibly slow and it is not my computer as it works fine on other websites and we have broadband. I tried loads of time to send my trolley to Sainsbury's but have given up and gone direct to the Sainsbury's site as I was afraid of not getting my preferred delivery slot. I have placed my order for next week and it was more expensive than if I had used MySupermarket but it was very quick and easy and I still got the Nectar points.

Yes I've been have trouble. Cannot load my favourites from the Tesco site. I've emailed MySupermarket but they haven't bothered to reply. Should we get on to Ipoints and complain??

Blimey, that's a lotta bottle. Tesco's milk is 65p a litre, so say £20 was on milk, that's around 31Lts. Maybe you'ld be better off getting a cow :D.

Mr. delivery coming tomorrow and should come to around £80, which I've included in my sig. So looks a bit dodgy for this month I'm afraid, but with a bit of Gordon's Prudence I might still make it.

    good luck one and all.

I've got 2 cats, 2 hamsters and a dog, I just include their food and treats in our budget.

It's my first month doing the challenge so still finding out works best for us at the moment. We've decide to have a separate budget for the dogs each month and it seems to be working well. We did manage to clear Pets at Home of 31 tins of Winalot the other week. It's was down to 25p a tin! And it was new packaging! Someone mistake is my gain :T . Have been back several times but the shelf hasn't been restocked since  . We plan to use any money left on the extra expense of Frontline (or very ocassional kenneling) in the the future.

I,m just going to buy some rolls (or baps, depending on your location) today for the trip to newcastle airport. Probly dont need them, as it,s not a very lengthy drive, but could help keep the driver alert, and saves any spending at services. Hopefully my DD will return the favour and get me some fresh milk and stuff for my return so I would think thats my GC all done for this month. I,m just off to put my Amazon sales into holiday mode so,s I dont muck up my 100% feedback, and I,m all set to go .....I think. Have fun and be good whilst I,m away. BYE
