  • Hi All

August grocery challenge went out of the window - never mind! Have forgiven self as it was my first time. However, this month have only got a budget of £210.00. Don't know how I will manage it, but have to basically! Am going to do a meal plan now, and bake and bake and bake!! So, if noboby minds can I join in this month aswell? Pleaseeeee?
  • Hi everyone, I'm trying the September challenge. Failed miserabley with the last couple of months, but I'm geared up now.
  • Did my main shop of the month over a couple of days (Thurs/Fri) and have spend yesterday and today batch cooking for all I was worth!

Have made LOADs of stuff for the freezers - in fact I'm starting to worry a bit that I'm running out of space. I've got 2 freezers and both are chocablock!

Although I'm whacked, I feel really pleased that we have all those meals ready and waiting (gives me a lovely warm glow - I DO like squirelling stuff away!)

Unfortunately though , I miscalculated how much milk I was going to use making two HUGE quiches, so now I have to go out for more, and I'm already over budget for the week.....AAAAAAAAARGGGGHHHHHH!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well as you can see from my sig I am a bit over for the first week already, but I am not too worried yet! I finally packed sick daughter off home yesterday (she's better now) and although we have visitors today, we are back to 'normal' from tomorrow so I hope to stick to the revised budget. Fingers crossed! Good luck everyone especially to all the new joiners. Even if you go over budget it's fun trying and quite an eye-opener when you find out where all the money is going. Off to finish the lunch for our visitors. Back next week with an update.

    Hello all,

I have to get back to this. Just done a freezer inventory and I have so much food, plus a full storecupboard, so I am in this month.

Hoping to spend £200 max...including toiletries etc but not meals out (I know this is cheating but there are often times when I have something planned for dinener but then we work late etc so it goes out the window and takeout is needed)

Spend so far £21.05 (starting from yesterday)

Well I have never joined in with one of these challenges before but hopefully will start now. I don't have a budget - I just spend what I need. But at the end of this month I start a college course and will have travel expenses etc as well so need to control all my spending.

There is myself and two children aged 7 and 12. If I make a wild guess at the amount I spend on food, toiletries and cleaning products I suppose it would be £300 pcm??? Reasonable?

If I could eventually reduce it to £120 pcm I would be ecstatic. But I will be taking it all very slowly!

I also have to read all the threads in this so far, I am sure I will get inspired by hearing how others have done.

  • Hi,
I know technically we're only 2 days in, but I have just finished my first week of the september challenge, and I came in at £16.98, £3.02 under budget. It would have been less, but I bought a large pack of turkey steaks today which bumped up my total quite a bit, but will hopefully see me through most of next week.
I don't think it was too bad for my first try, but I'm looking forward to seeing if I can bring it down any further over the next few weeks :)
  • This is my first month of this challenge so hope it doesnt all go down the swanny! £100 for myself and the better half.

Still need a few bits and pieces for house, but we went a little over board ast month and need to cut down and sort budget out so I am starting with food.
We have lots of moving in wine and beers of friends and quite a bit food in already so hopefully will have some time in and some nice home made meals this month :D

    Wish me luck!!!!! xx

Edit! Forgot to mention first shop tomorrow evening after work, hopefuly Asda wont rob me blind. wish we hada tesco closer to home :(

Had my Tesco delivery yesterday - with delivery charge should have been £106.37, but with various vouchers, codes, BOGOFS etc...came in at £89.59!!:T

Total spend for 1st week of this months' challenge is £131.69!! I know this sounds like a lot (which it is..) but have bought most of staple items (formula, nappies, loo rolls, household cleaners, washing powders etc)

Leaves me with £268.31 for the next 3 weeks - this is around £89 per week - should be able to manage this.........we'll see though!!
