    Evening all,

Went shopping today and spent €179.05, but have now at least 25 dinners in fridge/freezer/cupboards, lots of cereals which is almost always the only breakfast here, cheese, salami, bacon which should do for most snacks for month. Have given OH €8 which he will use for milk, so will only need to buy fresh fruit and vegetables and other odds and ends. Feeling really pleased with my day, although am totally wrecked.

My challenge this month is £300 - 4 week month and I need to reduce the amount spent on household expenses this month, it's been far too much the last 2 months.
Lost my way a bit last month as it was school hols and I was including eating in cafe's etc in total. But only went over budget by the amount we ate out. So this month I'm not including meals out but am including takeaways.
We have one weekend with family visiting and a weekend away camping to include.
    Grocery challenge July £250

  • Ordered groceries online from Mr.T. for the first time and how nice it was to just unpack and put away this afternoon. Spent £51 which included £10. off on special offers. Got in a bit of muddle with half price items and put 2 against each one instead of 1 so have loads of oriental stir fry sauces which should last weeks. Spent £11 in Somerfield on fish, prawns and squash which were on offer and £10 in Iceland on special offers. House bursting with food now so should be able to manage the £150 budget. Someone on here suggested the spending diary, this is a great way to track my food spending daily with a full report on where the dosh is going. Thanks for that.
Hopefully I will just buy fruit, veggies and milk each week but will certainly order online again.
  • well done, sounds like u had a rewarding day... how good is home shopping!!!!!!you'll do well on £150 . is that just for u? oh and what is the spending diary??????? & jam jar challenge .sorry to irishwexford thanks

Hrmph. Not very happy at all. Should have spent £25 or less today and actually spent £35, and that's with my Tesco vouchers. Either I have to reduce the next 2 weeks by £10 to £20 each, or I have to rethink my budget. I stuck to the list too. Well, apart from a pot of custard. Oh, and a magazine. Ah yes, and I spent double on the cat food than I normally do because there was an offer ... But apart from that ... this only accounts for about £4 or £5. I even stopped getting organic to try and keep it down. I'll be on Tesco savers next.

Ah well, c'est la vie. Maybe next week.

  • Hi,

We've an impending arrival due next Feb/Mar (a bit confused with dates & scans) so thought it might be an idea to try & live to our budget as my pay will drop when i go on maternity. Our month runs 6th-5th (as thats the credit card month & we pay off in full the next month) and we budget £75 each week. No idea what we actually spend, probably more but i've never added it all up!
We need to feed me, df, dd (10 - although 11 in Sept!), cat & 2 lovebirds. Planning to include cleaning stuff & toiletries too. But not takeaways cos df gets them :p
Hopefully once we've managed to stick to our budget we can shrink it before next year!

    Wish me luck!!

First week of the sept challenge over and I have spent just over £74, not good as i had budgeted for £75.00 to include shopping for my son in ireland and I have n't done that shopping yet.
I will have to be extra careful next week to keep on track, need to get under £60, will have to plan better this week I think. Was doing ok until wednesday then o/h went shopping and used his debit card, I thought I had hidden that well to avoid this happening.

    good luck everybody

Well I've done my first shop of the month and have spent 50.94. Not too bad. Back to work on Monday so needed stuff for pack ups. Work just down the road from a Lidl so will be able to go there for lots of nice, cheap fruit and veg!
