Does everybody on this board have a "bread maker" fetish?
Am i the only person here who isn't too lazy to make it by hand?
it's not exactly difficult now is it?

Kaya I don't have time to make it by hand - kudos to you for doing so It is not a question of being "lazy" though. . I too would hold out for the Panasonic. Anyone I know who has had a cheaper one has generally banished it to the cupboard or shed. I know someone with an Anthony Worrell Thompson one but I think that is even more expensive than the Panasonic.

Keep your eye on Amazon for the panny and snap it up when it next gets reduced.

I've had a cheap breadmaker and it was awful. The bread was like rock. I now have a Panny and am very happy with it. We've not bought a loaf since we got it and have made buns, fruit breads etc for the fraction of the cost of buying them in the supermarket.

I would defo save some money up and get the Panny. Join the £2 savers club and soon you'll have enough for one! Also, keep checking amazons prices as they had the Panny sd254 for £40 inc P&P before Chrimbo.

I have the MR fastbake and I do like it, lately I wasn't getting good results so made it by hand, same problem so changed ingredients and was fine. Pressume was either the flour or the yeast.
One day I might be more organised...........

    What a horribly judgemental post!!!!

kaya, do you honestly feel you know enough of each and everyone's circumstances to justify this blanket statement? (You might want to consider some folks have very painful, deformed hands from arthritis, for just one example;) )

Melie 3, the Panasonic sd254 only differs from the more expensive sd255, by not having an automatic nut etc dispenser. Unless you intend to make masses of bread with nuts etc, probably not worth the extra:D

It took me less that 2 minutes to weigh out the ingredients and put a loaf on this morning. There was no washing up to do, I didn't have flour everywhere, I didn't have to stand and knead for 10 minutes and keep nipping back to check on how it was proving.

As somebody who frequently works 12 hour days, I love spending 2 minutes putting it all in the BM and putting the timer on, knowing I'll come home to warm prefectly baked bread.

I have the older SD253 with the raisin dispenser. I was one of the lucky ones to get the Pan SD254(or was it 255 - forget which) for 39.99. Many thanks to the poster who notified us all of this bargain.

I gave it to my fella for Christmas and when I saw it, I was a little jealous. It really is such a nice compact and neat shape.

I have the SD253 panny breadmaker which was on a discontinued offer in Tesco a couple of weeks ago for £49.95 - I had some MOCs so I paid about £36 quid in the end :)

This is my third breadmaker and I must say the panny is the best ever - all the bread I have made is fab, and I made some pizza the other day which was amazing

There is no comparison to my previous breadmakers - one from Lidl, and the other off QVC - the Panny is in a different league

I have noticed a lot of people also thinl the Morphy Richards is good - have a look on the thread - I also see that Tesco have an 'own brand' breadmaker, which looks suspiciously like the Morphy Richards one - but is on offer for £39.95 I think

Agree with previous poster, wait until the panny is on offer again atAmazon, I was just really lucky to get one on offer in Tesco - as I had gone there to buy the Panny SD 255 which was over £90 and saw the SD 253 on offer so nabbed the last one!

I have made loads of stuff with it - and the bread mix packs work wonderfully - just sling the packet in with some water and turn it on - bread to die for!

cheese and onion bread - yummy, sundried tomato and parmesan bread, amazing

I have an MR at the mo but it is dying. I missed the pannies so don't know whether to just hang on.
I think I'll just see how long mine can survive and if it does die I will have to order my new one pdq!
